Chapitre 35 - Se Préparer

Seoul | 2018

The trial day.

Chaeyoung feels nervous somehow, she took the prison bus head to the Seoul High Court. She could see that the court is filled by the reporters.

Chaeyoung got inside after trespass all of the reporters. All she can do is wait now. It was quiet with her alone in the room.

An officer then asks her to stand up and bring her to the courtroom.

The courtroom is now filled with people, Chaeyoung can't help but close her eyes feeling embarrassed.

All the judges then come in. All raise.

Another person also comes to the room, Chaeyoung can't help it but see them in the audience.

Mina and Minseo come to the room.

They all now seated, Chaeyoung could see her tears, Mina wipes it immediately.

The prosecutor then makes an opening statement, his opening statement cornering Chaeyoung to the end. In Chaeyoung's heart she can't even deny all the charges, Chaeyoung also blames herself to death.

It's Chaeyoung's lawyer turn, he made a counter-attack to the prosecutor's opening statement. Saying that Chaeyoung lost her wife and raise her own child alone after that. Chaeyoung know that isn't true, she can't cope with her sadness and even leaving her only child to her parents.

The court then calls Detective Jung to the stand.

Detective Jung testifies about the case, how he found evidence in the late detective house in Jeju-do. Detective Jung presents the proof of transfer made from Son's family join account. The detective confirmed that it was hit and run as he presents the proof that Chaeyoung checked in the hospital nearby.

Chaeyoung could only look down to the floor. She's too embarrassed, she can't see Mina and Minseo. 

The prosecutor also brings the former Detective Oh partners to the stand, who's now in jail. He testifies using a video conference to the court. He said back 10 years ago he was given the task to cleared up the crime scene and plant fake evidence at the Mugunghwa intersection.

His testimony actually makes things worst. Now all the audience pinpointing that Chaeyoung should be responsible for this.

Chaeyoung could only sigh at the situation.

It is time that Chaeyoung to be called to the stand.

Chaeyoung move to the testifier chair. The court then put a bible beside her, ask her to repeat the words, her words trembling.

"I swear that the evidence that I shall give, shall be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God"

Chaeyoung then seated.

The prosecutor is up first to question her.

Chaeyoung can't help it, she's nervous as the man wearing a black and red gown approach while holding a folder.

"Son Chaeyoung-ssi?"

"Yes, Gomsa-nim?"

"Summer 19 August 2008, you got into an accident in the Mugunghwa intersection, Gyeonggi-do, is that true?"

"Yes, you are right"

"Can you tell me what happened?"

"I was driving after picking up my wife at the Gapyeong Theatre, she was the cello teacher there. My wife was 34 weeks pregnant, it was late, I just wanted to be home, that's all. I didn't realize that I was speeding. Next thing I know my car hit the other car from the intersection. It was all of sudden. I believed that I hit the roadblock after. I was knocked up upon hitting the airbag. I woke up and saw that my wife........."
