Dripping water from the sewers and the thud of their footsteps into the concrete echoed loudly into the small tunnels.
"So Sing. How long have you known this place?" She asked.
The boy looked at her. "Years. Don't know when. Don't care how." He replied.
She hummed knowingly. "So... what makes you a gangster?" She asked.
"Influence. My brother Lao was Shorter's right hand man. And I grew up with them that easily took me into this side." He explained.
She nodded. "So Lao is your brother, huh? Who would have thought." She smiled. "Tell me more about yourself. I want to know more about you."
The boy blushed. Trying his best not to let her noticed his embarrassment. "You're the one who should tell me about yourself. Your past is like an enigma. I can't even research you." He said. But soon regretted admitting when he saw her jaw dropped and shockingly looked up at him.
"You're researching me?" She asked in disbelief. "So, how far did you find?" She asked a little curious.
The boy scratched the back of his head. "When you started studying in junior high, your hobbies, performances, school standings. No parent name, historical background, race, or even birth place. Its like you just existed few years ago." He said to explain.
She laughed. "You stalker." She elbowed his rib lightly.
"I'm sorry okay. I just had to know more about you." Sing defended.
"It's okay. Everyone knows that if they want to." She replied. "And besides, that's the profile I'm supposed to portray. Not allowed for any dark things otherwise."
"Yes. Now that you mention it, nothing in your profile associates with your last name. It only say that you're Dino's godchild."
"That's how people should see it." She replied. "If anything, I'm just an ordinary girl in social standings."
"Then mind telling me who you really are?" He said.
"Then will you hold my hand?" She stopped on her tracks, stretched a hand forward in front of Sing.
The young Chinese sighed, reaching for her palm and held it. "Here you go, princess." He said.
She smiled pleased. "Great! So I'll tell you something about me." She said. They continued walking into the rat holes straight ahead. "I'm from (your country)... well my mom is, at least. I got all my physical attributes from her. My h/c hair, e/c eyes, built and skin. I got nothing from my dad but my identity. The way I am now is because of him, but eventually, I'll graduate from his teachings and find my own path."
Sing nodded.
"I came ordered by my dad here in Manhattan due to Monseiur's orders and when I was sent here five years prior, I met my grumpy childhood friend, Ash. My dad was ordered to train him over becoming a better fighter. Since I was younger, he tried bullying me, but in the end, he's the one I ended up dumping down the ground."
The Chinese boy laughed. "Must've been hard for Ash. I never heard him being beat up by a girl before." He said.
"Well I was way more experienced than him, and apparently, I'm the only girl who lived long enough to stay with him. At least dad had taught me more than what I have to know. I had to memorize geography a lot too. Study history--wars and strategy I mean. Even human body, attitude and psychological point of view. Socialization included. Got my brains ups into an adult when I was a kid, that's probably why Ash and I got along after being acquainted with each other for months--set aside the fact that we almost tried to kill each other the chance we get around those months."
