I groaned in my bed, trying to fight the hangover that is slowly reaching my head. I tried to open my eyes and failed miserably when I heard a knock on my bedroom door. How much did I even drink last night?
The person kept knocking, obviously showing how impatient she is. I forced myself to stand up and reached for my door handle. ”Stop pounding on the door, Jess. My head hurts.”
“Remind me not to let you take shots with Jae again. You were supposed to take care of me last night. Not the other way around. Come on. I made breakfast.” She reprimanded while dragging me to the small kitchen adjoining our small dining area.
I instantly smelled pancakes and bacon and that helped me open my eyes fully to take in the heavenly goodness in front of me.
“Here, drink this before you eat.” Jesse handed me a glass of water with painkillers to help with the hangover. I offered her a sweet smile and gulped down the pills before reaching for the food she prepared.
I was in the middle of eating my second pancake when I noticed her standing by the kitchen sink. “Aren’t you gonna eat?”
She sat in front of me and leaned on the table. “So, I probably have asked this a hundred times already. But what’s with you and Jae?”
“What’s with you and Min Yoongi?” she slumped back in her seat and sighed.
“I told you last night. We…uhm, we’re…” she trailed off.
“Complicated? Yeah, doesn’t answer my question.” I said while munching on a crunchy bacon.
She stayed silent for a bit. I never really minded the silence. It makes me think and organize my thoughts so I never felt awkward about it. I let her think about what to say next as I continue eating my breakfast.
“We kinda hooked up a few months ago.” She finally said.
“No shit.” I replied.
“Yumi! You’re not making this easy for me.” She whined.
“Then maybe start with something a little less obvious?” I countered.
“He…uhm…he told me he liked me.” She was playing with her fingers. A nervous habit I grew to notice just after a few months living with her.
I stopped eating and answered, “Like.”
She looked up at me. “He likes you. The guy literally can’t take his eyes off you when he arrived last night. Didn’t even acknowledge my presence before you walked out.”
I saw her blush. Jesse was known to be the harmless flirt from our little group so seeing her blush makes me more curious about what her and Yoongi’s relationship really is.
“He’s sweet. He has this image of a cold person but he’s very sweet. You know me. I’m only used to guys…hooking up with me. But right after that night, I saw him change the way he acts around me. Every time we’re in the same room, he always makes his way to me. I don’t know, Yumi. I’m really confused right now.” I stood up and took the seat beside her. I stopped her from playing with her hands and held them on mine. I rubbed my thumbs on the back of her palm. A gesture I know that calms her down.
“What’s so confusing about a guy liking you, Jesse?” She leaned back on her chair and looked up at the ceiling.
“Maybe because he’s so perfect I don’t think I deserve him?” she looked at me and I saw how scared she is. She didn’t want to admit that she is slowly falling in love with Bangtan’s resident cold prince.
“Did he make you feel you don’t?
“No.”
“Does he try to show what he feels about you every time he gets a chance?”
“Yes.”
“So what’s the problem, babe?”
“I’m scared.” She finally admitted.
“I’m scared that once I allowed myself to fall for him, it will turn out to be a trap.” She whispered the last part and I almost didn’t catch it.
“What happened after you walked out last night?” I curiously asked. She looked at me and blushed again.
“Okay, don’t tell me. Just talking about that guy made you blush twice in this conversation. I don’t think I can take any more.” I reached for my plate which was left abandoned on the other side of the table and continued to eat.
“We were arguing. About…about how he wished I would allow him to take care of me. Then, I was shouting and he kissed me. It wasn’t the first time but this time I felt how desperately he wants to hold on to me.” She continued. I thought about how flustered she looked when she went back to our table last night. So, that’s what happened.
“I’m not surprised. The guy is passionate. You can tell from his music. He probably has a whole album written now with what you’re putting him through.” I joked around. She punched my arm and I hissed at the searing pain I feel from the impact. I glared at her and she glared back.
She dismissed what I said and again brought up a topic from last night. “How do you know so much about their music?” she inquired.
“Jesse, I’m in South Korea. They’re like the biggest K-Pop group not just here but worldwide. They’re literally everywhere. Hell, they’re living a few floors above us. Do you expect me to not know anything about them?” I snapped at her. I stood up and put my plate on the sink to wash it. I went to the fridge and grabbed my self another bottle of water when I saw her observing my movements.
I then saw how her expression changed. She smirked and I instantly know that she’s plotting something in that little head of hers. Something that in my experience, always turns out a disaster.
I rolled my eyes and was about to walk out when she blurted out, “You know, they’re fairly curious about you.”
I turned my attention back to her and raised my eyebrow. “Your point is?”
She smiled. That devilish smile I really hate with a passion. I just really hope she doesn’t do anything stupid.
