You had woken up a little late and the sun hadn't come up still, you really just wanted to go back to bed but it was too late now. "So we're just going to be running around?" Lee and Gai nodded, helping you put the weights on. "And you guys aren't going to leave me behind are you?"
"Of course not, but try to keep up. No stopping until we've run around the village twice."
"Wait, we're running around the village twice?" Maybe this was a mistake....
"No, we're running around the village twenty times." Lee says cheerfully, "then the real training will begin."
"If you survive this then you'll survive anything," Sakura says as she appears beside you. I guess she couldn't stay up any longer and decided to get some sleep while she still could. You sighed and silently agreed, regretting your decision to train with these two. "It's good to see that Lee is alright," you glance up at her as your small group begin to move.
'What do you mean?'
"Gaara was supposed to crush his legs but I stopped him, Lee still ended up losing but he's not hurt as badly as he's supposed to be." You glance Lee over, he looked fine to you but that's not saying much. You don't notice any injuries but you do take note of Gai's frequent looks of worry directed at Lee whenever the boy's back is turned.
"Maybe, for Sakura's sake, we should only run around the village ten times." Gai suggests, you glance down at the weights and lift your feet.
"You know, walking around the village twice might be all I can do."
"Don't doubt yourself Sakura, you're more youthful than you know." Lee says, but agrees with Gai to take it easy today. For your sake. The two start jogging in place, ready to move whenever you are.
"Alright, let's go." You start off with walking, just to adjust to the weights but they eventually get you to start moving faster. 'These two never skip leg day.'
"Leg day is every day for these two, along with every other body part day there is." Sakura floats along beside you, "I would like to be friends with Ino again."
'Ino? I think she'd like that,' you think back to the day you spent with the blonde for a moment. 'She's actually very nice.'
"She likes Sasuke," Sakura is quick to announce, "but you probably already knew that."
'I did but I also know he doesn't like her like that.' You weren't sure why that was important but she seemed to think it was.
"How can you tell?"
'Well, I'm sure he would have told me.' You can't think of a time where Sasuke had ever shown an interest in Ino and you certainly hadn't seen them hanging out.
"Would Sasuke tell you that? You know, you are very close to him."
'Mhm, I consider him one of my best friends.'
"Do you think that'll be enough to stop him from leaving? Should we just tell him what we know about Itachi?"
'I hope it'll be enough, I know I don't understand what Sasuke's gone through. Even though my family and everything I've ever known is in another world they're still alive, for better or for worse, and I can rest easy knowing the people I care about are okay. Sasuke doesn't get that, he sleeps in his big and empty house knowing full well that everyone he loved died there. Everyone besides the murderer, who is still out there. He never learned the reason, he never found out the truth and it probably eats away at him. I think he deserves to hear what really happened but.... not from us. He needs to hear it from Itachi.'
"If you think that's best."
'I do, I just don't know how to convince Itachi to do that.'
"You have to find him, likely through the Akatsuki. I'll keep you updated on all the things that change, we'll figure this out. By the way, when will we be meeting those women?"
'I don't know, after Kakashi and Sasuke get back. So likely after the exams are finished, I can't wait to finally know what's happening. And maybe fix things, return us to our own bodies.'
"You want to return home?" Disappointment was one word to describe Sakura's tone, did she expect you to stay here forever? "I guess I never really thought about the possibility of us returning to our own worlds and everything going back to normal."
'I don't know if anything will ever be normal, especially not here, but it'll be something.' Sakura opens her mouth to say something but closes it with a sigh and a small smile.
"You're right, it will be something. But you know, if that happens, I hope these visits continue. They're the highlight of my day.... or night I guess."
'My world too boring for you?'
"No, it's just.... your friend trash talks me constantly. Not only does she do this to my face but whenever I try to defend myself she rips my arguments apart and belittles my opinions. 'Sakura is weak and annoying, she shouldn't be allowed to be a ninja. Psychic abilities, can you say OP?' Am I weak or OP? Make up your mind." She used finger quotes and a funky voice for your friend. You smile a little, sounded like your friend.
'She has strong opinions about characters, I can't tell you how many times I've heard her complain about you getting in between Sasuke and Naruto's romance. She decides who she likes and who she hates, nothing can change that. I had a friend who liked you, she thought you were impressive and admirable. Realistic. She's the one who convinced me to watch Naruto, told me to set aside all opinions and make my own. Gotta say, I got way more than I expected.'
"And while you run around changing the world as I know it, I get to sit back and watch interesting movies I never would have dreamed of. I'll miss that, movies are nice."
"You're doing great Sakura, keep it!" Lee says as he slows to your pace. "We're halfway done, I'm impressed with your stamina." He says encouragingly. You nod, you had been so distracted with talking to Sakura you had just been unconsciously following him around the village. Your legs burned and you were breathing heavy, you just hadn't noticed that before now. But now it was unbearable and you slowed to a stop. "What's wrong?"
"Just give me a minute, I think I'm dying or something." You put your hands on your knees and shift your weight to your palms. Lee rests a hand on your shoulder for comfort and just stands there, no rambling about youth and no words of encouragement. Gai comes to your side shortly after.
"Are you alright? Lee, if you don't mind, I'd like to speak with Sakura alone for a few moments. Go on ahead." Lee nods, starting to move away with a quick jog before picking up the speed and disappearing. "I don't know much about you or your world (Y/n), if this is too much then I won't force you to finish."
"How'd you know about that?" Gai laughed a little, rubbing the back of his neck.
"I was informed by the Hokage, shortly after you made your debut as a psychic. Everyone suspected you'd come to me for training at some point, considering chakra isn't something you're used to, and they wanted to make sure I didn't overwork you."
"Oh, makes sense I guess. I honestly don't think I can keep up with Lee and you, this isn't something I'm used to. Not to this extreme at least."
"Of course, I shouldn't have pushed you so hard from the beginning. If you'd like to continue training at a more gradual level I'd be willing to work with you on that."
"That sounds good," your breathing had finally evened out and you stood up straight. Well, straighter at least.
"Good, let's walk the rest of the laps. After we're done you're free to leave for the day. I expect to see you again tomorrow." He looked happy that you've chosen to continue training, even if it's at a lower level. You could already hear Lee approaching you as you began to walk around the village, excited to see you feeling better. Gai and Lee walked on their hands around the village while you kept your feet on the ground, ignoring the curious stares of other people. Sakura had floated off somewhere, no mention of where but you shrugged it off. She'd probably fill you in later about it.
