(Sofia POV)

"Mom?"

Sofia's eyes pricked with tears and she found herself struggling for breath. "You're supposed to be dead."

Her mother however, paid no attention to Sofia's confused stuttering. The only thing her focus was on was the Head in front of her. "Leave her alone King." Her mother spat.

King laughed "You have no authority over me."

Her mother narrowed her eyes "I have seen through everyone of your plans with out question. All I ask is that you rethink this one."

King shook her head and shrugged "Does it matter Elise? I already offered her to join us. She refused. There's nothing to rethink."

Sofia let out a frustrated growl "Mom!"

Elise turned in her daughter's direction "Sofia, listen. I know you're confused, but I swear I only did what I had to."

From behind her, King snickered "You mean you never told her? Oh Elise, Now this is a story I wish to hear."

Elise ignored King's snide comment and continued speaking to her daughter "The car crash never happened. I asked Dallas's mother to tell you that so you wouldn't come looking. She was kind enough to take you in."

Sofia began putting the pieces together in her mind. The Police not finding a body, the crash never advertised in any news or papers. It all made sense now. Then another thing clicked into place in her mind.

"It was you wasn't it? You tipped Murdoc off. About who I was."

Elise nodded "Yes. Murdoc and I have known each other for a while. When you came of age to be recruited by the Ophidea, I asked him to get to you first. I told him about your brother. Figured it would make you more likely to go with him."

Tears spilled out of Sofia's eyes. "All this time....and you never once reached out. You never thought to tell me you were okay?!"

 "Sofia I couldn't-."

 "No! You left me!"

Elise hung her head "I understand your anger Sofia. Yes. I did. I left. But I kept you safe, and even so I knew there would be a high price to pay. But Sofia, despite everything I had to do, I still loved you more than anything in the world. All I wanted was for you to be able to live your life free of their clutches."

King cleared her throat and sighed "Well now that your little sob story is over with, would you mind getting out of my way Elise? Or perhaps you'd like to finish the job?"

Her mother turned around to face King. "Take me instead."

 King looked confused "What?"

"You heard me. Kill me and let her go free."

King laughed "You'd offer your life in exchange for hers? You know, I never really understood the whole mother-daughter thing considering I killed my own mother."

For some reason, that statement didn't really surprise Sofia at all.

King shrugged and directed the weapon at Elise "Very well. Any last words?"

Sofia's chest tightened with panic "Mom no!"

Elise looked back over her shoulder "I love you my Firebird."

Then there was a loud crackling of a gun going off and a ringing in her ears as Sofia watched her mother fall lifeless to the ground. She sat for a moment in a state of shock. "Mom...no....don't leave me again..."
