(Sofia's POV)
She had no clue how long she'd been in there or when they were going to let her out.
Sofia paced back and forth in her holding room wondering where her friends were and if they were okay.
When the guards brought her here, they left her with no weapons, no means of communication, and absolutely no answers as to what would happen to the rest of the Firebird. They at least hadn't bothered to chain her this time. She had no way out anyway.
Sofia ran her hands through her tangled hair. She had spent at least the last two hours in this state trying to come up with some sort of plan. When she had told Adria that they needed to learn Phoenix's hand first, it had been a bluff to keep them from doing anything irrational. Now they were all expecting her to come up with some sort of brilliant plan.
"Great. Just great. Once again, you've managed to get yourself into a situation you can't get out of." She scolded herself.
She needed to be able to think, but her mind kept chasing itself in circles. She needed to clear her head.
Sitting down against the cold concrete wall, Sofia pulled her knees to her chest and buried her head in her arms.
She always seemed to know what to do in bad situations, but lately her brain had been preoccupied with the fact that she had spent a year and a half trying to avenge a death that had never even happened in the first place, and the man who had been like a parent figure to her had lied to her.
More thoughts kept spiraling around and around in her head until it finally became too much. Sofia extended her legs out and pointed and flexed her feet, trying to get the blood flowing in them again.
Suddenly an idea came to her. She wouldn't be able to think clearly with all these thoughts running loose in her mind. She need a distraction. She needed to dance.
Pushing herself back up into a standing position she closed her eyes and thought back to the last dance she had ever performed. The solo for her mother, only days before Murdoc had weaseled his way into her life.
Rising up onto one foot, she slowly extended her leg into a tilt before bringing it down and moving her body gracefully to the time of the song playing inside her head.
(MacGyver's POV)
After his talk with Bozer, Mac couldn't get the hypothesis about Sofia potentially knowing something about his, well their father's whereabouts.
Although every rational thought in his head told him not to, he began walking in the direction of Sofia's holding room.
As he made his way down that dreaded hallway, a constant stream of thoughts ran through his mind. What do I even say to her? Hi I hate you but let me ask about your personal life? What if she refuses to speak with me? She probably will given her statement earlier. I wonder if she even knows anything about him at all. This is so stupid why am I even- His thoughts were cut off when he almost ran directly into Cage.
"Hey Mac. What's with the distracted look on your face?" She asked.
MacGyver sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "I don't know...I was talking to Bozer and he had this idea that maybe Sofia knows something about where my...our dad is."
Cage tilted her head to the side "I don't know. But it's worth a try. Good luck, I hope you find at least something."
She said before skirting around him and into another room, most likely to interrogate one of the Firebird.
Taking a few more steps, he reached for the handle and carefully pushed the door open.
What he saw on the inside was certainly a surprise. He had half expected her to be at the door waiting to strangle whoever questioned her with her bare hands, but instead Sofia was dancing.
He watched a little in awe as she completed a smooth sequence of turns before leaping up into the air, arching back and bringing her leg up to meet her head in some kind of split like form.
His eyes followed her as she landed and gracefully fell into a sort of sitting position, eyes closed with one hand placed over her heart and the other extended into the air. A small smile had found its way onto her face. That was the first time in the two days MacGyver had known her that he'd actually seen Sofia genuinely smile.
He softly clapped his hands together in praise and her eyes snapped open. The warmth faded out of them and was replaced with an icy coolness. "I recall you saying you danced, but I didn't think you were this talented." He told her.
Sofia picked herself up from the floor and wiped a bit of sweat from her brow. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say that was a real compliment." She spat.
MacGyver rolled his eyes "If I didn't know any better I'd say that was a real smile." He mocked.
The ice in her eyes hardened further. "What do you want MacGyver?" She asked "Are you here for an actual reason, or just to mock me?"
He shook his head "A real reason. I'm here to ask you some questions."
Sofia turned away from him "I'm not giving you anything on the Firebird, and no amount of torture will help your case, trust me."
MacGyver only shook his head again "Actually I'm here on more...personal business."
Sofia's shoulders shook as she let out a cold laugh, and her blue eyes flashed as she turned towards him again "And why should I help you. All you've done is disowned me and thrown me in a cell. So give me one good reason why I should do anything for you!"
MacGyver sighed and looked down "Look, you're right. It's just...well...let's face it Sofia. You and I are probably never going to get along, much less like each other. I know you spent a year and a half trying to hunt down the people who had supposedly killed me, but it's difficult to accept that you've killed people in cold blood, tried to hurt my friends, and you worked with Murdoc. I know we all have our pasts, but yours is one I may never be able to accept. However, this personal business isn't just personal to me, it's personal to you too."
Sofia narrowed her eyes at him "What do you mean it's personal to me too?"
"I'm trying to find our father. And I wanted to know...if you-"
"Remember anything that might give you a clue as to where he might be?" She cut him off "No. I'm sorry MacGyver but I can't help you. I was only six when he left me and my mom. I barely remember anything about him. Only that he used to call me Firebird."
MacGyver tilted his head to the side "Is that why-"
"We're called the Firebird? Yes."
MacGyver nodded before turning to leave, but he stopped just before the door and turned back to face her. "Sofia?"
She looked at him with a questioning gaze. "I'm sorry." For a moment her eyes softened
"I'm sorry too." She replied.
Then he opened the door and exited the room, leaving his sister behind.
