(Cage POV)

Cage looked through the hospital room window, grief clenching at her heart. MacGyver stood motionless at her side, watching as the five other members of the Firebird sat around Sofia who was lying unconscious in the hospital bed, a breathing mask over her face.

She glanced over at Mac who only stared straight ahead, watching, waiting for any sign that Sofia would come back to them.

She placed a hand on his shoulder, and he finally looked in her direction, his blue eyes clouded over with sadness and guilt. Even though he'd tried to hide it from everyone else including himself, Cage knew deep down he really cared for the girl.

"Mac. The doctors said she's going be okay. It's just a matter of when she's going to wake up."

MacGyver's eyes flashed "Yeah, and what if she doesn't?" He asked sharply "Then what?"

"She'll pull through." A new voice joined them. Cage looked away from Mac and saw Cress standing with her arm around Maia who looked to be in the same state as MacGyver. "She's strong. A bullet can't kill her. It's Sofia. Nothing can. Not even King."

Although Cage could tell that Cress didn't believe them herself, the blond's words seemed to put MacGyver at ease, because he nodded and relaxed a little.

The rest of the Firebird filed out after them and stood away from the door allowing Mac and Cage to go in.

Cage pulled up two chairs, and the two of them sat by the side of Sofia's bed.

MacGyver took his sister's hand carefully in his own and began speaking to her in a soft voice. "Hey you. I just wanted to let you know that if you die, you're grounded."

Cage chuckled at his attempted humor.

"Sam told me what you did for her. What you told the Firebird back there." He continued, glancing in her direction "Thank you. For doing that. For keeping her safe. For keeping me safe." His voice broke at the last part.

"This is my fault Sam." He said , never taking his eyes away from his sister's face.

Cage shook her head "You can't blame yourself for this MacGyver. It wasn't your fault."

Mac's posture sagged and he hung his head "I...I just need some time Sam. With her. Alone. I need to be alone right now."

Cage nodded in understanding and wrapped her arms around his defeated form for a few moments. "I'll be just outside if you need me."

Then she stood from her chair and exited the room, leaving MacGyver alone with Sofia and his thoughts.

(Sofia POV)

Dreamstate

Sofia walked down a cracked sidewalk in a familiar neighborhood. She couldn't put her finger on why, but she knew she'd been here before.

She continued on her way, enjoying the fresh air and the sunlight.

Suddenly, loud childish laughter rang through the air. She stopped in front of a small brick house that overlooked a brightly colored flower garden. She slowly made her way up the cobblestone path that led to the back gate to investigate.

Pushing on the tall wooden structure, she found that it had been left unlocked. Sofia slid through the small gap and froze at what she saw.

Two young children were spinning around in circles in the yard while a younger version of her mother and a man who she recognized to be her father sat with younger versions of Dallas's parents.
