Newt couldn't sleep. It had been a month now since they spoke about Cathy.
The reason why they never spoke about her after that was because they never met eachother after that day. All their health and fitness checkups were done seperately. Even their food was brought to them in their rooms. He also noticed that the organisation had slowly started giving simplistic and minimalistic food instead of their usual lavish menu.
Their contact with other people had been cut off and it was getting really frustrating staying locked up in a room with bare white walls.
He was told that today they would start with some new tests and a different program developed to observe them and their brain activity.
He turned to his bedside clock and read the time
06:14 am
at 07:00 am sharp, one of the guards would escort him to a lab in the next wing. They had never taken anyone there except for the kids who worked with the organisation as opposed to the rest who just worked for them.
Knowing well that he wasn't going to get any sleep, he hopped out of bed and went to his closet. He took off his blue shirt and slipped on a white one since he knew that was Cathy's favourite colour on him.
He had given up any hope of ever seeing her again. He was just thankful that he made such an amazing friend like her and even though she probably forgot him by now, he'd still love her just as much as he did when they danced arround and kissed few nights later.
He put his fingers to his lips, where once Cathy had placed her own lips and smiled like an idiot before shaking his head and sighing loudly.
Before he knew it, there was a loud knock on the door and his escort entered. Newt silently followed him, not having a single clue that this was going to be the point from which his life would change forever.
When he reached the lab, there were few people already lined up in the hallways. Each one was being taken into the medical rooms one by one. Eventually more boys started to show up until there were about forty of them.
After several minutes Thomas and Teresa showed up with a few more doctors.
Inside, above each hospital bed, menacing devices hung over. They looked like robotic masks made of metal, full of wires and tubes. Ava stepped into view and told the boys they were going to helping them by participating in this new trials called the 'maze trials'. She assured them that the process would be harmless yet different from the rest of the tests they'd done but this would take them one step closer to their goal of finding a cure. She told them that this was all for the greater good and the only thing she required from them was coorperation.
She wasn't very clear about what was going to be different in these trials but she was doing a terrible job at decreasing the confusion the boys had. All she mentioned at the end was that they'd be sent somewhere else for this, almost like a field visit.
Minho, out of everyone seemed to be the one most nervous. He looked restless and was fidgeting a lot.
He felt a hand on his shoulder and flinched before looking up. He was about to lash out but when his eyes met the person's in front of him, a wave of calm seemed to wash over him, relaxing his muscles as it flowed through his whole body.
"You okay big guy?" the girl offered him a sweet and genuine smile "relax okay? deep breaths"
"Cathy!" the boy exclaimed with excitement and a big smile which instantly vanished when he saw a confused look spread across her face.
"You know my name?" She asked as she tilted her head in confusion. Minho felt as if someone had placed a heavy stone on his chest. His close friend forgot him. He managed a weak smile before talking "Yea..I uh, heard the doctors talk to you"
