Heather sat staring at the wall aimlessly for a few minutes, not knowing what she was supposed to do.
Her mind felt numb, she didn't know how to think for a minute. She didn't know what to do. She felt incomplete.
"Hey." Uma said, sitting next to her.
"Hi." Heather said, not looking away from her bracelet.
"You okay?" Uma asked. "You seem a bit... off."
"Fine." Heather said. "I'm fine."
"Are you completely sure that you're fine?" Uma said. "Because I know since your brother left you're going through a lot right now."
"I'm fine." Heather said. "I mean it."
"Okay." Uma said. "But just know I'm here for you Okay? Just like you're here for me."
Heather watched her walk back to where she was setting tables up to the the people who were slowly returning to the Shoppe after hearing of Uma's reappearance.
She wanted to let go of what was making her sad, but that same person made her happy.
She'd always care for HJ. Even when they were worlds apart. HJ had always been there, it felt weird that he was gone now. He was gone again.
Heather took a deep breath, watching the scenes that shine red on the TV. She didn't know what else to do. Her mind was blank, like she had nothing else to think about.
She'd never imagine life without HJ until her father had said he was leaving. She never expected him to return. Why would she anyway? There was no point. But she had and it made Heather miss him even more. She didn't want him to leave. But she had to let him. He didn't deserve to suffer because of her. HJ deserved to live in Auradon. She didn't.
It made her question again why he'd gotten an invite and she hadn't. What had the king been trying to pull? Did he care that he had separated them?
"Heather." Gil said, sitting next to her.
"Hmm." Heather hummed.
"Are you okay?" Gil asked.
"Fine." Heather said. "Why?"
"You don't seem like you're all there." Gil said. "What are you thinking about?"
"You're never all there." Heather retorted, crossing her arms over her chest but realized there was no reason to be mad at Gil when he'd done nothing wrong. "Sorry Gil. I didn't mean that."
Gil shrugged his shoulders, obviously paying no attention to what she had just said as he propped his head on his hand.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Gil asked with a goofy grin that caused Heather to laugh.
"No." Heather said. "I mean yes I want to talk about it. Question is if you'll listen."
"I'm listening." Gil said, nodding his head eagerly. Heather took a deep breath, trying to collect her thoughts and find out just exactly what she wanted to tell Gil. There was so much to talk about and he probably didn't have the attention span to listen to it all, in her opinion. Gil was a good listener. He listened to your every word and didn't judge what you told him as he'd forget it soon enough.
Heather pursed her lips together, clicking her tongue.
"It all started this morning." Heather said.
"What started this morning?" Gil asked.
"My problems." Heather said. "I was completely fine you know? I was happy. I didn't have a care in the world."
"What happened?" Gil asked.
Heather averted her gaze.
"You know what this is stupid." Heather said. "I don't need to tell you anything."
"It'll make you feel better." Gil urged. "Keep going."
"Okay." Heather said, nodding her hand. "I was Fine you know until he showed up."
"Who showed up?" Gil asked.
"Jackson." Heather said. "I saw him in front of the alley over there." Heather gestures to the window. "and you know I've liked him forever now."
"Yes." Gil said, still not understanding where she was going with it.
"This time Chelsea was holding his hand." Heather said. "And I didn't know whether to be mad at her. Because she knew I liked him and I never once took what people she said she liked. And I don't know if I want to be her friend anymore because that was really messed up."
"I see." Gil said, nodding his head. "I'd give you advice but I'm not good at this stuff."
"What would you do if you were me?" Heather asked.
"I'd tell the person how I felt when I started to feel something." Gil said. "And you haven't done that yet."
"Thanks Gil." Heather said. "You're a real helpful."
"No really." Gil said. "When Chelsea's fine playing her games you tell him how you feel. What's today?"
"Why does it matter?" Heather asked. "It's the twenty first of December. Oh shoot. Helia's birthday is tomorrow and I haven't gotten her anything."
"Great." Gil said. "You now have something to do to get all of that off your mind."
"You did that on purpose?" Heather asked. "I'm impressed Gil. Thank you."
"I'm more than just brawn." Gil said. "And you're welcome."
Heather smiled a genuine smile, forgetting in that moment all her worries. There was nothing for her to be worried about. She was going to be fine. She could survive this, without HJ. It was only temporary. She'd see him again.
Maybe Jackson wasn't worth her time. If he didn't like her back she was fine with it. She didn't need someone else to make her feel complete.
Heather's smile faltered as Chelsea sauntered into the Chip Shoppe. She was alone this time. The whole Shoppe has fell silent as they stared at her in confusion wondering what had gotten to gotten her to come back here. They murmured amongst themselves. Uma finally turned around as did Helia and Harry.
Helia raised an eyebrow at Chelsea but said nothing. Uma on the other hand seemed to have a lot to say.
"Well well." Uma said. "If it isn't our resident kitty cat. Wonder where you've been all this time huh? Oh wait we do know."
