Ben led them away after their interaction with the reporters. He seemed in total zen, not fazed at all by the questioning.
HJ could tell that Sam had been miffed after meeting Snow White, as she hadn't expected herself to meet the woman so soon after she'd came. But she had and she didn't seem to like it one bit.
She twirled her hair over her finger over and over, unwinding it and starting again as if that would help her forget about what had just happened. It didn't seem to be working, so she stopped and began to twiddle with the bracelet on her wrist.
HJ sent her a reassuring smile which she returned half heartedly, too absorbed in her own thoughts to fully give him her attention.
HJ squeezed her hand reassuringly, letting it rock back and forth between them as they made their way through the courtyard, entering the school once more.
"What class are you going to HJ?" Ben asked after a moment of silence. HJ snapped his attention toward the king, trying to remember it from the top of his head.
"I don't remember." HJ said.
"Basic Chivalry." Sam said, as HJ blinked.
"How'd you remember that?" HJ asked.
"I pay attention to things." Sam said. "When I want to."
"When you want to." HJ said. "So when would that be?"
"I'm not telling." Sam said, before backtracking when she realized HJ had stopped moving. "Earth to HJ. Why'd you stop?"
"It's Hel's birthday today." HJ said.
"I forgot about that." Sam said. "What are you going to do about it?"
"I can't do anything can I?" HJ asked. "No I can't because there's no way we can do anything for her."
"You can sign a card and I'll have the mailman deliver it for you." Ben said as HJ raised an eyebrow.
"Why would you do that?" HJ asked as Ben shrugged.
"It's the nice thing to do." Ben said. "I don't want to ruin things just because you aren't there."
"If you say so." HJ said. "Thank you Ben."
"No problem." Ben said. "Let's go to my office and have that sent for you."
"Can we get her a present?" Sam said as Ben nodded.
"Sure. We can get her present too." Ben said with a shrug. "It's fine. I'll get Fairy Godmother to excuse l from your Basic Chivalry. And then we can go off."
Ben jogged into the school, leaving Sam and HJ awaiting for his return. Sam fiddled with the phone that she had been given, still trying to understand how it worked.
"You're making this harder than it should be." HJ said. "That's the power button. This is the button you click to unlock it. Then you go through the apps. See that wasn't so hard."
