Chapter 31

We had to go out for dinner becausr I had forgotten all about it. I didn't say much during dinner, Williamson had already explained to Ben about it. They tried to chear me up but it won't work because I was just having too many thoughts.

"You can skip a day of school tomorrow." Ben followed me to the garden right after dinner.

"I need to go, it's Cecil's first day." He didn't say anything for quite a while but instead sat on the grass beside me. The stars in the clear night skies really cooled me down a little.

"What did she mean?" I said while I rested my head on his shoulders. That was when I felt like he wasn't a father to me, more like... a best friend and also a boyfriend?

"That for the officers to find out then inform you so no need to worry much. You're just a kid."

"What if I'm the bad person?" I looked up into his eyes.

"That will never happen. You're too nice to be bad Scarlet, everyone knows that." He kissed my forehead. Yes he kissed me. Like oh my gosh Benedict Cumberbatch, kissed me! I felt my body became soft as if there was no bones but I tried to act normal, imagine if he kissed me on my lips how would I react?!

"Go to bed now. You got school tomorrow." He stood up and walked back into the house.

"We'll you sure look happy." Williamson said once I came in. As usual, he was in the living room reading the newspaper while making some notes.

"I need to go to bed. Goodnight Edmund." I said while I turned around and winked at him.

"Never call me by my real name Bad Girl and Goodnight Scarlet." I went back up, showered, put on a PJ's and chose a book to read. It's been long since the last time I had time to read. I seldom have time to read because once I start reading, I can't stop.

Nothing much happened after that day. Cecil went back to school and he did have many people crowding around him asking him so many questions. The weekends ended quite slowly because nothing much happened beside the fact that, Cecil, Edmund, Jade and I went for a double date in the cinema. Yes, that was all that happened which was unusual. I was waiting for something to happen throughout the whole weekend and still nothing.

Monday, school day. The officers wanted to see Cecil and I after school so Williamson sent us there at 1pm.

"Why do they need us?" I asked.

"For you Scarlet, I think it's about Lind. For Cecil, I have no idea."

"They found out something?" Cecil asked. He seemed kind of annoyed for having to go to the police station because he was supposed to play soccer after so long but he didn't get to.

"Possibly. Or maybe they just need Scarlet to identify some stuff."

"Will you be there with me?" I hated going into the creepy room alone with people I never met.

"I'll possibly go with you Scarlet but there are no promises whether or not they will ask me to go with Cecil."

Once we reached there. Cecil and I were seperated and brought to the different part of the building. Williamson was brought to a different place to, he was supposed to watch the officers interview Lind again.

"Scarlet do you reconize this ring?" They showed me a ring with printed wordings on it. The wordings seemed like some foreign language because I was sure they don't teach these in school. There was also red gem stones in the middle of every word. And also the ring was gold but the words were printed in black. It was familiar to me but I couldn't recall where I saw it before.

"It seems familiar but I can't remember where I saw this before..." I said.

"I'm sure you have saw the recording of what Lind said lately?" The fact that the officer said Lind reminded me where I saw this.

"Kent Hawk. When I used to live with him. He put this in his bed side drawer. Once I opened his drawer to look for some stuff and I found this. It was long ago I think. I remember I ran to him and asked him what it was but ended being beaten by him." I said. I nearly cried. The fact that I suffered for so many years still tramautize me."

"Well thank you Scarlet you may go now." The officer opened the door.

"That's it? Just one item?" I was suprised. How could this help them anyways.

"Yes and by the way Williamson had informed us to tell you to wait by his car. He will come out with Cecil once they are done." Then the officer thanked me and I walked to Williamson's car.

"Scarlet, are you in the police station now?" Ben called me and ask.

"Yea I'm waiting for Williamson and Cecil."

"Oh good because I'm currently home and Jade is here to see you. Apparently Mark didn't know who she was so she was waiting outside for quite a while now."

"Jade?"

"Yes she said it's nothing important, just wanted to talk to you a little. So I ask her to wait?"

"Yes please, love you Ben." I hung up. Cecil was out soon after that, followed by Williamson.

"Tell you everything tonight." Williamson whispered into my ears when he went into the car. That was also the only thing he said after that. He looked weird too. Cecil tried and ask him whether he was okay but he just nodded.

"Hey!" I said as I saw Jade inside my house.

"Scarlet you didn't tell me you were busy today!"

"You didn't tell me you were coming." I said as I layed my bag on the couch in the living room.

"Oh good Cecil is here too! Come I need to plan something with you guys!" She was excited.

"What?" Cecil asked.

"So as you all know, Edmund's birthday is on this Friday." She said. Cecil and I shared the same look, the confuse look. We were so busy we forgot about our buddy's birthday.

"Yes yes and?" I quickly tried and change back into my normal look.

"Yes so I decided to organize a suprise party for him in his house, it will only be the three of us."

"Sure, what do you need?" Cecil asked.

"Okay so Cecil will bring Edmund out, maybe a game of football or to the movies,  anything. While Scarlet and I will be in his house decorating."

"Wait, he's whole house?"

"I was only thinking his room. I asked his mom already and she was fine with it since his parents will not be home from Wednesday until next Monday."

"When do we start?"

"Thrusday we'll go buy the stuff. Friday we'll go there."

After that day, we made sure no one knew about this suprise party for Edmund. It's a big deal for Jade to organize sonething like that. On Wednesday, Cecil was busy so Jade and I went alone to the mall to get the stuff we need. She even pulled me into almost every clothes shop to help her choose a dress for the party. Finally, she realized that we needed to rest so we stopped for coffee. We also did a check for what we had bought and what we haven't.

"Dress?"

"Check."

"Balloons?"

"Check."

"Party hats?"

"Check."

"Cake?"

"Ordered."

"Ribbons and colorful stuff?"

"Check."

"What else?" I asked.

"Nothing actually. I have the rest at home so we are pretty much done. But, I need to get some groceries for my mom."

When we walked to the store, Cecil called me.

"Hello?"

"So how's you girls doing?"

"We are done and now..."

"Scarlet isn't that..." Jade stopped there. She pointed a guy wearing a cap. Wait isn't that....

"Cecil you have no idea who in seeing."
