Emma's pov

We walked back to Ashton's house hand in hand talking about the terrifying future. Of course I would wait for him. That wasn't a question. Everything else in my life, I wasn't too sure of.

"Six months is a long time."

"Australia is a big country."

"It's a continent actually." I replied with a small smile.

"Ok smarty pants its really big. I get it." He giggled.

"Did you tell your dad about medical camp?"

"No. The deadline was today and he's going to find out I didn't send in the application."

"So what are you going to tell him?" He asked tightening his grip on my hand. It was making me feel better, but not even him could help me when I was about to crush my dad's dream.

"That I don't want to be doctor. That's not how I want to help people. I like working in the soup kitchen. That's what I want to do this summer. That's how I want to help people." I replied, my voice shaking.

"That's good. You'll do great ok?" He said before kssing my forehead.

"I hope so Irwin."

"And stay with me tonight. I'm leaving early in the morning and I want you to be there."

"Let me just go home first. I need to tell him and then I'll meet you at your place." I replied.

"Good luck." He hugged me, wrapping his arms around my tightly so there was no space inbetween us. I didn't want him to let go. I didn't want to walk away into that house. I didn't want to tell my dad to sit down so we could talk. I didn't want him to yell at me. I didn't want him to be disappointed in me. But thats what happened. I had this horrible heavy feeling in my gut the whole time, but what absolutely killed me was the last thing he said before walking away.

"The part that disappoints me the most isn't that you let me down, but you let Cody down too. We were all rooting for you. We all want to best for you, but you're too selfesh to appreciate that." He stormed off leaving me on the coach sitting in the dark.

I didn't know what to expect, but it wasn't this.

I ran up to my room and grabbed a T-shirt and a pair of jeans. As I walked out, I passed my parents bedroom. The door was cracked open. I couldn't see anything, but I heard eveyrhting.

"I just want her to be happy. I want her to be safe." My dad said as he cried.

"She will be. She's not Cody and she''ll be able to figure it out on her own without us." My mother replied.

"I just don't want to loose her."

"You won't." I replied. I instanly covered my mouth. This meant I had to come out from hiding, so I opened the door.

"That's not the way I want to help people. There are people who don't have what we take for granted and I want to help them." I said in a small voice.

"It's going to take me a while to get used to this." My dad said.

"Take all the time you need." I replied with a smile. He smiled back and a weight was lifted off my shoulders.

"I have to go. I'm sleeping over at Alex's tonight, but I'll be back tomorrow morning." With that said, I turned around and head for he backyard. I jumped the fence and opened his sliding door to find his little brother playing video games.

"Hi Emma, Ashton's in his room packing." His said, his eyes never leaving the screen.

As I walked by I messed up his hair saying, "Thanks buddy."
