Did you find something wrong, or just didn't make sense in this series?
She felt like she had lived two lives.
She remembered the little farmhouse she had once sought refuge in and loved every creaking floorboard, every banging shutter when the wind howled, it had been the haven she had so desperately searched for - but it never really was. She was running and that farmhouse was her prison, it kept her locked up for days, in fear of the wolf finding her. Her fear destroyed her mentally, as did her grief and sorrow, and it should have been the end.
It was her pitiful story, a broken girl trying to find air to breathe. Isolated from the world, with only a little town with equally broken people to cope and confide in. She often thought of the people she once knew and she just wanted to know if anything changed. Did they miss her? Or did they move on without even batting an eyelash? Esther was surely still bustling in Topped Off and Avery was probably getting ready to play in the snow with her friends.
She wondered if it was all a facade that they pulled, as people often did, and they never really cared about her in the first place. But then, she thought maybe it was just herself. Maybe she was fooling herself into thinking she could belong. Though, when six little wolf pups rolled into her life, she felt as though everything changed. How ironic it was, she was on the run from a wolf and she ended up raising six of them. Let alone how she loved and cared for them, her life was just irony at its finest.
She hoped that her father had been given a proper burial and she almost wished she could know where he was so she could visit, but then she decided it was best she didn't. She had learned to move on with her heartache, far quicker than she would please, and she knew that going back would place regret upon her shoulders. She needed to move on, and she did exactly that.
The last thing that she expected to happen within her life was to discover the reality of werewolves. She never believed in their existence despite how she would hear people whisper and spin tales about the mythical beasts. She never wanted to believe they were and she thought she stories to be fickle. Though, she was proven wrong. Quite literally. After finding her cousin on accident, it became all too real.
Yet, in the fray of it, she didn't regret that. Out of everything she had done in her life, she had never felt as fulfilled as she did now. She felt like she found a purpose for her life and she no longer woke in the night to nightmares plaguing her sleep. She felt like a normal human being and amongst many others who have suffered in their own ways, she felt more welcome than ever. She felt understood and it gave her soul a little boost of faith.
For so long, she wanted to believe she wasn't the only one to suffer from traumatic experiences, but she felt so singled out in a world where everyone seemed perfect. She felt attacked when she couldn't go on with life like everyone else. But it wasn't her story anymore, it felt like she switched lives completely, and who she discovered was a brave girl that lived with the wolves.
