I woke up in the car. "Sam! Sam! Can you hear me?"
"I'm fine, Hunter. I think I just have cuts and bruises."
"Does your stomach hurt?"
"No, like I said, I'm fine. You held me back. You protected me. "Are you okay?"
"My head and my leg. Everything hurts Sam."
"You're going to be okay, Hunt. Everything is going to be okay."
"I think I just need to sleep for a little while. I'm so tired, Sam."
"No, Hunter. Don't close your eyes. Stay with me. Please don't close your eyes. Help is on the way."
"I'm just going for a nap. I'm going to wake up as soon as help comes."
"Hunter, don't close your eyes."
"This is all your fault." I mumbled.
"Me?" Sam exclaimed. "You were driving!"
"You said you'd keep my kid away from me, Sam. You're carrying my kid! I have every right to see my kid."
"Hunter let's not talk about this now. My stomach is starting to hurt. And you can't go to sleep."
Everything went black.
I opened my eyes and instantly shut them. the light was way too bright. Once I was ready to try and open my eyes again, I slowly opened them to let them adjust to the lights. "Where am I?" I mumbled.
"Hunter! You're awake." I felt someone's hand in mine and looked at the person gripping my hand. Sam.
"Are you okay? How's the baby?"
"I'm fine, Hunt. But, the um, the baby." Sam started saying and then started to cry.
"What happened to the baby, Sam?"
"I lost it, Hunter. I'm so sorry." Sam cried.
"This is all your fault." I mumbled again.
"What?" She whispered.
"You were planning to keep my baby away from me and I wasn't paying attention to the road like I was supposed to be. You wanted to keep our now dead kid away from me. You did this! This is all your fault."
Sam was sobbing. I yanked my hand out of hers and started to cry myself. "Hunter," Sam started.
"I don't want to hear it Sam. Our kid is dead because of you." I choked out. "I don't want to see you again, I can't look at you without seeing the accident that killed my kid. You did this. Get out of my room and do not come back."
"Hunter," Sam sobbed.
"Now Sam! Get out!" I sobbed.
She killed my kid.
She killed my kid.
My child is dead.
The room started to darken, my gaze started to get blurry. Then, everything went black again and I faded into nothingness.
"Why hasn't he woken up yet? He should be awake by now." The person asking that sounded like my mother, but I wasn't completely sure.
"His injuries were extensive. He has a grade 3 concussion and had severe swelling of the brain. He's extremely lucky he didn't die."
Injuries? What the hell happened to me and how am I injured?
"I just don't understand how this could have happened. He's always such a cautious driver."
Why wasn't I paying attention to the road? "I'm awake" I called out. "Where am I? Was I the one in the accident?" No one answered me.
"The traffic was already stopped due to another accident up ahead. He must have realized too late that no one was moving."
Are they sure it was me in an accident? Where am I? I tried to open my eyes, but they wouldn't budge. So, I settled for listening.
"Is he going to wake up and be okay?"
"His leg is in a cast, it is uncertain if he'll be able to partake in any sports again. As for his head, I cannot be certain if he'll wake up with amnesia or not. He's been unconscious for a few days now. His brain has been working on healing and so has his other injuries. When and if he wakes up, we will preform some tests and determine how his brain is and if he has any memory impairments."
I've been sleeping for three days. What the hell? What happened to me? "Hello? Can anyone hear me?"
"And, Samantha? How is she doing?" The person I'm assuming is my mother asked.
Sam was in the accident too? Is she okay? How could I harm her? "Someone please tell me what's going on!" I screamed out.
No one answered. They continued to talk like I wasn't around.
"She has a few bruises and scratches but nothing extensive. Your son saved her. Had he not put his arm out to hold her back like that, there's no idea the extent of what her injuries could have been or if she even would have been alive."
Sam was in the accident with me? What the hell is going on? I calmed myself down. She's okay though, that's the main thing. Sam isn't hurt.
"The people that were in the car he hit, how are they?"
There were other people that I hit, too? I no longer deserve a license. I should be put in jail. How could I have been so careless on the road?
"As far as I know, they are all fine. No one had extensive damage like your son did. Your son is very lucky to be alive right now."
What did I do? Okay, maybe I wouldn't go to jail. Everyone is okay. But me.
The pain in my head was becoming unbearable. All these questions continued to swarm around my head, and nothing was making any sense to me. My head was getting worse and I couldn't breathe. My head felt like it was closing in on me.
I heard a beeping noise start to slow down. Is that me?
It was getting harder to breathe, I tried to claw at my throat, but I couldn't move my arms. Help me.
"What's going on? Is he okay? Is my son okay?"
"He's going into cardiac arrest! Code blue!" The next thing I heard was a piercing alarm that made my head hurt worse. I can't breathe. Someone needs to help me.
"Ma'am, I need you out now." The same person continued to yell. "Nurse, get her out!"
I started to get dizzy and the last thing I heard was my name.
Everything silenced around me and I couldn't grasp onto anything. All I could see was black and then I faded into nothingness.
