I removed my phone from my ear and looked at it. Why did she answer Xavier's phone? Why was she pretending to be him? She couldn't be having that hard of a time, could she? She wasn't actually living in gang headquarters, was she?

I called Xavier's number, again. Not even thinking twice about it. I wouldn't mind hearing her voice again anyways.

"Hello?" He asked.

"Is this why you haven't been returning my calls?" I snapped, not even bothering for a greeting.

"I'm doing good, how are you?" He replied.

"Don't be a smart ass. What the fuck is going on back there?"

"I'm assuming you talked to her," Xavier stated.

"No shit," I snapped.

"Well then you know everything that's happened since you've been gone."

"Did you really move her into gang headquarters?"

"I didn't have a choice, Hunter! She had nowhere else to go and she asked me not to tell you. I've bee doing what you've asked of me, that's all. I've kept her safe. She just lives her, she's not doing anything." Xavier defended.

"She still could be in danger, Xavier. I barely got her out last time."

"What do you want me to tell you, Hunter? The only one that isn't fine with this arrangement, is you. it's only temporary until she can get a job and get herself situated."

"She's six months pregnant!" I snapped.  "She shouldn't be getting a job!"

"She's handled a lot thrown her way, Hunter. Don't underestimate her, she can handle it."

"I'm not worrying about her not being able to handle it. She doesn't need a job, I told you I would be sending money for her."

"She can't rely on you, Hunter. You're not here for her. She doesn't want just your money, she wants you here."

"I know what she wants." I replied. "She's told me many times, but she was the one that told me to leave in the first place."

"She what?" He asked.

"She told me she didn't want to see me again, Xav. I'm just doing what she wanted."

"By the way she's acting now, she probably didn't mean that." He replied.

"It doesn't matter anyways, this is for the best."

"You don't mean that," he replied.

"Yes, I do." I replied.

"Who are you trying to reassure, Hunter?" Xavier asked me. "Me or yourself?"

"I have to go." I replied, hanging up the phone.

I put on my jacket, getting ready to go to work. I didn't want to be in the hotel room anymore, anything was better than being alone with my thoughts.

"I opened the door, and almost walked right into my father. "Dad," I greeted.

"Son," he replied.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him.

"Are you going to let me in?" He asked me.

"Of course," I replied. I moved out of the doorway for him to come in.

I turned around away from the doorway to face him. He looked at me and studied my face. "You're the father, aren't you?" he asked me.

"What?" I asked him, startled. I must have heard him wrong.

"You're the father of Samantha's baby." He stated.
