I said goodbye to the home I grew up in, the memories with Hunter, the town I loved, the memories I had in general and welcomed the life that I was walking into.
I walked onto the plane. "I promise I will never leave you the way my parents left me. I promise to always put your needs over work. Always." I rubbed my stomach, letting her know that even though I was bettering our lives, I would never put work above her. Never.
I slept most of the plane ride to Connecticut. When I got off the plane, there was a car waiting there for me. "Hello Ms. Dawson, Mr. Thomas wanted me to let you know that you have today off, and you start tomorrow morning at nine sharp. There will be a car waiting outside of your room at eight forty-five to escort you to work. I will be taking you to the place you will be staying at, if you'll please come with me."
"Um, you're not a murderer, are you?" Smooth. I like how that's the first thing I can think of to say.
He chuckled. "No, mam. I am Mr. Thomas' personal driver. He asked me to come get you and to make sure you arrived comfortably. I am assuming your flight was good?"
"Yes, it was very relaxing. I was able to sleep most of the ride here."
"That's good."
He opened the door and I settled into the back of the car. Once he started driving off, "where will I be staying?" I asked him.
"In a hotel owned by Thomas Enterprises. You will not have to pay for anything, so you don't have to worry about that. I'm assuming Mr. Thomas will call you to check in at a later time."
"Perfect."
The rest of the ride was silent as he brought me to the hotel. He quickly grabbed my bags and brought them to my room, helping me settle in. "I hope you enjoy your stay here, mam. Connecticut is a beautiful city."
"Thank you, I am very excited to be here. Thanks for all your help today."
He silently left and I settled onto my bed, not even bothering to unpack and drifted into unconsciousness.
The next morning, I woke up and got ready for the first day of training. I settled on a blue business dress, that showed off my bump. I can't hide my belly anymore anyway, it's huge.
Walking into work, I walked up to the receptionist. "Where is Mr. Thomas' office?"
She looked at me. "Your name?"
"Samantha Dawson."
She picked up her phone and dialed a number. She talked quietly and was watching me. Finally, she hung up and looked at me. "He's on the fifteenth floor. Talk to his assistant before you go into his office."
"Thank you so much. Have a good day."
She smiled sweetly at me. "You as well."
I clicked the up button for the elevator and waited. When it finally came, I clicked fifteen and relaxed in the elevator. I got off of it and walked to, what I'm assuming was, his assistant's desk. "I'm Samantha Dawson, I'm here to see Mr. Thomas."
"Let me call him right quick to let him know you're here."
"Sure, thank you so much."
She picked up her phone and called him, letting him know I was here. When she finally put her phone down, "you can go in. Go down the hall and take a left. His office is the first room on the right," she said to me.
