"Did you find him yet?"
"We got a lead on him, and unfortunately, it's with the Boars," Xav said to me.
"You guys are a bunch of fucking idiots, a disgrace for a gang. I can't believe you fell this far apart after I left. The fuck is wrong with you guys?"
"The Boars will reach out any day now, we know Novak. Novak hypes himself up to make himself look like a fucking Greek God that is so desperately needed. He'll get a rude awakening when N tells them to fuck off."
"Prom is in a week, Xav. I do not want to have to worry about a target on mine or Sam's back because of it. Get this shit dealt with."
"It will be dealt with, and after this we won't have to worry about N anymore either."
"Why not?"
"Everyone wants him to step down because of all the fucked-up shit that's going on now. He has no choice but to step down. I don't know if he'll even be apart of the gang anymore."
"Who will take leader position?"
"It's between B and I," Xav replied.
"Jesus fuck. If B gets it, he'll never leave me alone. You better get that position."
"I will, don't worry about it." He replied, smirking. He's such a cocky arrogant bastard.
"I'm out and I still have a fucking target on my back." I said to him. "You never really escape a gang." I mumbled more to myself.
"Nope, they're with you forever. Extended family." Xav replied, grinning at me.
"Extended family my ass. B didn't like me, N tolerated me because I was good at what I did, and you are my best friend. The rest feared me. That isn't an extended family. That is a group of assholes being dipshits."
"I wouldn't say that if I were you. You're going to need us to protect your girlfriend and your daughter. You'll be relying on us to protect you."
"If my place gets shot up, you all better pray. I'll have you all killed. I'll end the Riverside Gang as we know it."
"You aren't capable."
"Watch me." I snapped. "I am capable of a lot more than you give me credit for." I groaned. "I can't believe you idiots haven't solved this shit yet. Sam has been driving me crazy to get out of the house. She hates me a little more each day and curses me up and down."
"Yeah, yeah. It'll be solved within the week; I'll make sure of it." He replied, shrugging me off.
"How are you going to make sure of it? You're on guard duty at my house."
"I'm still in contact with them, idiot."
"Don't get me started on who the idiot is." I snapped.
"You were the one involved in the gang before me, so you are the idiot."
"It was that or die. It's not like I had a choice. Besides, you're still involved in the gang and I'm not. So, you're the idiot."
"The only reason you got out is because of that stupid cast of yours and the fact that you're useless now because you're all about family! Don't you get that off soon?"
"Wednesday," I replied.
"That's the day before prom."
"Good timing, right? Who are you taking to prom?" I chuckled.
"I'm going with myself. I don't want to have to take a girl, buy the corsage, rent the limo, all that shit. I'll pass."
"And yet you all called me the fuck boy."
"You were because you had problems." Xav replied, laughing.
"I didn't have problems," I replied.
"You were in love with your best friend and too chicken shit to admit it. That's a problem."
"I was not in love with Sam back then," I huffed.
"You were, you both were so in love with each other, everyone knew but you two. Idiots."
"Oh, whatever." I replied, not believing a word he was saying.
"You know I'm right."
"Whatever helps you sleep at night." I retorted.
"I gotta take this call," Xav replied. He answered his phone and walked out of the room.
Sam came in a second later and sat beside me. "The baby is in the mood for poutine."
"We don't have the ingredients to make poutine here," I replied.
"I know. That means we have to go to the store and get it."
"Or, I can just call take out."
"No," Sam whined. "We haven't left the house since last Thursday. It's now Saturday. I want to go out. Vitamin D is good for the baby."
"Fine. I'll get Xav." I replied, turning to follow Xavier out of the room.
I walked into the kitchen. "He won't let them out of his sight, N. There is no way he is going to let the Boars take Sam without a fight."
I stood there and listened to his conversation. Is he referring to me? Fucking right I won't let them take Sam. "I'm not taking her out of this house to you. That's my best friend you're asking me to betray. I won't betray him like that."
He paused as he listened to what N had to say.
"This isn't even his problem! He got out. You're the fucking idiot that hired Novak. Fucking figure out another way, because I won't do what you're asking of me."
I decided to speak up. "What do the Boars have planned and why do they want Sam?"
He turned to me in shock. He hung up the phone and stared at me. "Well?" I asked again.
"It turns out," he paused and stared at me.
"Continue," I replied.
"Novak is now part of the Boars, leader in fact. He wants Sam because you beat him up and then I did. He wants revenge and he isn't going to stop until he gets it. He's on the warpath." He spoke, rushing his words.
"You're fucking joking, right?"
"No," Xavier exhaled, leaning against the island.
"Fuck. I beat his fucking ass twice now, and now I fucking got to do it again. You never really escape a gang." I replied, sitting down at the table. "What the fuck are we going to do?"
