"People, we have just a few days until this event. Where is it being held?"
"The Royal Hotel has a perfect ballroom for the occasion. There is a stage towards the back of the room, a bar off to the side, plenty of room to mingle, and the best of all it is owned by Dawson Enterprises so it will not cost anything to reserve it for the evening." Someone in the back spoke up and said.
"Perfect, someone has some sense!" I clapped. "Anyone else want to give me some good news?"
"Five different news channels will be there, so expect an interview for each one when you arrive. There will be paparazzi there as well to cover the event." Someone else said.
"Perfect! More coverage! Do we have a guest list, a DJ, an MC, any of the necessities?" I asked.
Everyone stayed quiet. I looked around at each individual. Angelica was looking down at that stupid book of hers. "Attention to Angelica!"
She slammed her book shut and looked up at me. "Y-yes," she stuttered.
"We should be starting to decorate for our event like yesterday, but we are unable to because we don't have any information. Could you enlighten us about what kind of theme we are having and all the other details you shared with the media department?" I replied, glaring daggers at her.
"Of course." She looked down at her notebook again. "The event is starting at six pm, people are expected to start arriving at five pm. The theme is a masquerade ball; make sure to wear a mask. People who plan to buy things will be given a card to hold up. We will have an auctioneer, he will be selling paintings and airline tickets. The people you put in charge of finding things to donate got many paintings donated and four sets of airline tickets from various airline companies to sunny locations. Um, finance has given you permission to make a twenty thousand-dollar donation. I booked a DJ, his name is DJ Shin, he has excellent reviews. The colours of the event are black and white, people have already started to decorate the ballroom. There will be alcoholic beverages available to people of age. The catering company is booked, and they will have appetizer snacks being shared around all night along with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Everyone invited RSVP'd saying they would attend. A lot of fellow CEO's are coming along with their partners."
"What about a place for their children?"
"Excuse me?" she looked at me.
"What are they expected to do with their children while they are here?"
"Find a babysitter. What do I look like, a nanny?" Angelica snapped at me.
"Finance! Do they have another open room we can reserve for the night?"
"Yes, right next door." Some guy, who looked in his late forties, with short black hair and blue eyes replied.
"Great, book it."
"What for?"
"Send out a notice to everyone that RSVP'd that kids are welcome to come. This is an event to raise money for children. So, children should be present. Turn the extra room into a festival of sorts. Where children spend money and can win prizes. Book local vendors to come into the room. Once we have them paid for the night, the rest of the money can be used as donation."
"How do you expect this to be done in a few days?" My assistant asked me.
"Because I expect it!" I snapped. "Did you expect anything less? I told you this was an organization close to my heart and I expect as much money to be raised as possible by the time the night is over. I want my CEO reign over Dawson Enterprises to go out with a bang. Make sure to hire security, a lot of them too so parents will feel safe to leave their children in the festival room if they choose to do so. Make sure every one of you that will be attending this Saturday night, is well dressed. We are representing Dawson and Thomas Enterprises and I want people to know we are not companies to be underestimated or messed around with."
Everyone looked at me in shock. "We are going to need a miracle to get this all done in time," someone from, I think, media said.
"Work around the clock then. I want this event to be spectacular. If it is not up to the standards I have set for this event, every single one of you will be fired. Angelica, touch bases with me tomorrow to make sure the vendors and security personnel are booked. Media, touch bases with me in two hours to make sure people have received the message it is okay to bring their children if they wish. Angelica, you're with me. We are going down to the Royal Hotel to see how decorations are going. Media, call and let them know that they have two rooms to decorate! Send people out from other departments if they need help to get the decorations done in time. That's all. Dismissed."
Everyone rushed out of the room to perform their respective tasks. "Walk with me Angelica," she fell into step beside me. "Why are you so distracted?"
"Excuse me?"
"That whole meeting, you were not paying attention at all, I had to snap at you to get you to realize it was your turn to speak."
"Is this your way of asking me if I am okay?"
"No, this is my way of asking you why you aren't paying attention." I stated.
"Nothing," she brushed me off. "I'm sorry I was distracted, it will not happen again."
"Good, let's get to the hotel then."
The walk to the car and ride to the hotel were silent. Angelica stared out the window the whole time and I stared at my phone. The silence was deafening. I know she wanted me to make sure she was okay, I just didn't care enough to ask.
I poured all my attention, patience, and thoughts into planning this charity event. I couldn't afford to think of anything else. I was afraid what my mind would come up with if I decided to let it roam free.
