The Struggle

Sydneys POV.

As we're walking over to the group of people, there's one face in particular that stands out to me.

Saide Greengrove.

"Hey, Luke nice dancing!!" one of his friends say.

"Don't blame me," he says while gesturing to me.

"Shut up Chad it's not like you could dance any better!!" Saide states, "I thought it was pretty hot!"

Wow.

I clear my throat but everyone's head must be too full of air to hear me.

"Hey I'm gonna go get something to drink, do you want anything?" I ask Luke as he shakes his head no.

Ashton's POV.

Ten minutes later, I finally arrive at school, already dreading what's waiting for me behind the doors. Once I get inside, I hand the ticket girl my ticket and slowly make my way into the gym.

Now what?

I don't usually go to these things so I have no clue what I'm supposed to do. I mean I know that I'm supposed to dance like an idiot with the rest of my class, but that all seems kind of juvenile. I don't see many familiar faces except for a few teachers, Michael and his posey, Luke, Sydney, some over peppy cheerleaders, SYDNEY!!! How could I have missed her? She looks so stunning in her blue dress and with her caramel curls hanging down her back.

I see her whisper something to Luke and turn on her heal to head over to the refreshments area right where I am.

RIGHT WHERE I AM!!!!

FUCK!

Where can I go!? If she comes over here she'll try and talk to me and that won't end well for either of us knowing Luke's temper.

Shit, it's too late. She's already located me.

"Oh hi, Ashton! I didn't know you were coming." Fuck. She looks even better now that she's closer to me.

"Yeah, it was kind of last minute.." I respond to her while trailing off.

"You know, I was looking so forward to this. I love the homecoming dances so much, but so far tonight has been a total bust."

"Yeah..I wouldn't know..this is my first time."

"Coming to a homecoming?"

"No any school dance." I inform her.

"OH MY GOSH!! This is such a big deal!!!!"

Why is she so excited? It's just a dance.

"Not really..It's just a dance."

I instinctually regret saying that because all the momentary joy that gathered in her face is now gone. "Or at least to me it's not.. I've never really been into the whole 'jumping around with your school while tasteless music is being blared' type of thing" I say trying to bring back some of the joy that I distinguished moments ago.

"Oh..ok. Well nice talking to you Ashton but I have to get back to Luke now.

"Yeah you too" I respond as she walks away.

Sydney's POV.

As I'm walking back over to Luke, my blood instantly starts to boil. Clear as day, I see what I've almost managed to forget.

Saide, once again, wrapped around Luke.

Unfortunately for him, he's not getting away with it this time.

Before I know what I'm doing, I'm over in the same corner as them and I'm pouring my drink in the middle of them.

"WHAT THE FUCKING HELL??!?!!!"Sadie screeches at me

"You're asking me what hell?! I'm sorry, but unless I'm blind, which I'm not, you were just making out with my boyfriend!!!" I say back to her.

"Yeah? Well maybe you should do a better job keeping him satisfied." She coolly responds.

Before I know what's happening, I'm being pulled off of Sadie and practically dragged out of the gym.

"What the hell were you thinking??!" Luke questions me. I can't believe he has the audacity to ask me what I was thinking! He was the one just making out with another girl!

"What I was thinking!?! Luke! You were just making out with another girl and you have the nerve to ask me what I was thinking?!"

"Yeah Sydney I do! You fucking attacked her!"

"Then let me ask you Luke, what were you thinking when you started making out with her?! Did you even think about how I would react when I found the two of you?!"

"I don't know why you're making this into such a big deal! I kissed her! So the fuck what!"

"So what?! Luke! We're in a relationship, you can't just go around kissing and god knows what else with other girls! How would you feel if it was me making out with another guy!?"

"First of all, you wouldn't be making out with another guy! No ifs, ands or buts about it. Secondly, yeah, so what, I kissed her just this once and you're making a huge deal about it!"

"Just this once?" He nods, "Well then what were you doing with her today during the parade?"

Silence.

"Thought so."

"You know what Luke, have fun with Sadie cause we're done." I say and with that I turn on my heel and leave the school. Just cause my curiosity gets the best of me, I turn my head around once just to see if he's still there..

And all that I see is the ticket table and crying girls sprinting into the bathroom.

No Luke.
