Chapter Six

Richard and I have been together officially about a month now and after my dad got an early copy of Vogue and saw that I was dating someone and got over that initial shock he is looking forward to meeting Richard. He's also been nominated for a Golden Globe and he's been in LA again and I've been missing him like crazy. Our relationship is out in the open now after my recent Instagram post "Thank you for posting that about me" he says as we're on the phone "I'm a proud girlfriend what can I say" I say "I've had my mum on the phone asking when I'm bringing you home" he says "After the holidays I fly home in like a week for Christmas with my dad but I'm back for New Year's" I say "I've asked them to come to the Golden Globes we could do dinner the night before" he says "Is that your way of asking me to go with you" I say "Thought it was obvious I was bringing you aswell" he says "A girl still likes to be asked" I say "Freya Vittori Volkova will you do me the honour of accompanying me to the Golden Globes" he says "Of course I will I mean I was already going anyway" I say "So dinner with my parents" he says "Sounds good maybe my dad could join us kill two birds with one stone and all that" I say "Sure" he says "I'll tell him. I miss you" I say "Me too. I'm back in like two days " he says "Meet you at the airport" I say "Can't wait I'll call you tomorrow" he says "Bye" I say. I'm falling hard for Richard.

Its Richards return home today and I have something special planned for later. I'm picking him up from the airport in his car which he's let me use whilst he's been away. I'm waiting for him at his gate and someone wraps their arms around my waist "I missed you so much it's crazy" he says and I turn around to face him "How do you get past me" I say "I have my ways" he says and I kiss him "Bags then I have a surprise for at your place" I say "How'd you get a key" he says "You keep one on your key chain with the car keys on" I say "Right" he says.

We get back to Richards where I have prepared dinner "It's not completely done but I've cooked everything from scratch" I say "I'm gonna grab a shower then smells amazing" he says "I'm an excellent cook" I say and get back to it whilst he showers. He comes down just as everything is finished and I'm plating up "Dinner is served" I say and we sit and he takes his first bite "This is incredible" he says "Wait til you see dessert" I say. We've finished dinner and are relaxing watching TV "You know something I realized when you were gone" I say "What?" he asks "A few things actually. One I'm happier and haven't experienced any anxiety in weeks two I missed you like crazy and finally that I'm ready for whatever comes next cause I'm facing it with you by my side" I say and I kiss him and move onto his lap straddling him "You mean everything to me Freya Vittori Volkova" he says "And you mean everything to me Richard Madden" I say and he lifts me up and carries me upstairs where our waiting ends.

We spend the next day out just enjoying each others company and we decide to meet up with Millie and Charley for lunch and then we head back to his and Richard goes out to pick up our food and while I wait I see that a fan sends me a link to Richards Ellen interview which I haven't seen yet and I decide to watch whilst he's away and she asks about me "We've recently learned your off the market to the disappointment of hundreds of women everywhere. Your dating actress and model Freya Vittori Volkova" Ellen says "I am sorry to disappoint. Freya is extremely talented that I'm in awe of her sometimes she gives her all in everything she does she's honest about things alot of us wouldn't be and she's just this positive force in my life and the people around her. I'm a lucky guy" he says and I hear the door open and I kiss him after he puts the food down "What's that for" he says "What you say about me in the Ellen interview" I say "I meant it" he says "I know you did" I say and I kiss him again.

I head home in a few days for the holidays so I've been spending as much time with Richard and my friends before I leave as I've decided to stay until after the Golden Globes as I have some work things to get done. I'm writing a piece for Cosmopolitans next issue as a guest writer spot.

Cosmopolitan was one of the first magazines I got a cover for and I've
always had a close relationship with them so I was honored when they asked me to write a piece. They've given me free rein to write about whatever I want but I want to share something I've never told anyone apart from my dad.

When my mom got sick a conversation was had given the family history of cancer about what that would mean for me because of a thing called the BRCA gene and if you have it then it increases your chances of developing cancer. I was obviously too young and my parents wanted me to have the choice to get the test or not and I decided not to until the health scare that triggered my breakdown happened.

I found a lump on my breast and my anxiety filled brain automatically thought worst case scenario so I got it checked and everything was fine and I got the blood test for the BRCA gene whilst in recovery and it came back clear and I know not everyone is that lucky. I've never been shy about advocating for looking after your female reproductive health and I'm an ambassador for F#ck Cancer and Stand up to Cancer and I'm working with Cancer Research UK and the Teenage Cancer Trust here in the UK.

I was lucky but one in two of us will develop cancer in our lifetime never miss your checks and don't be afraid to self check it's your body and only you can know if something is wrong with it I know I did.
