Friday, 25th November, 2011 | Cemetery | Alex and Carson {18} and Sienna {16}

There she stood, in between her parents. Their caskets one next to each other, they were identical. Both had flowers coving them, overflowing the top and a few petals scattered the ground surrounding them. A photo of Sienna and Alex was placed on each one, as per Sienna’s request. She needed closure.

Sienna opened her mouth, and out poured the eulogy that she had prepared. It was hard to write, especially for you… you helped her, but she hated that she needed someone to write words. She wanted it to be her words, she wanted to say good bye to her parents by herself. Not with help… she didn’t want someone to hold her hand, she wanted to take it head on.

Sienna’s words struck home with everyone present, tears flowed like a river and silences overcome the group. This was the first time in days that they have been silent… not bickering, not arguing about the will, not yelling at Sienna and Alex. Just being silent, being respectful, and allowing them to feel the pain and the emptiness of themselves.

You look over to Alex his eyes covered in dark sunglasses. His body was shaking and you felt a pain strike you in your chest. You lift your arm and rested it on your best friends shoulder, and gave it a gentle squeeze.

One day it won’t hurt as much, you want to tell him. But you don’t you just listen to Sienna’s soft voice. Her pain, you listen to her grief and numbness. You could feel everything that she did in her voice, the same voice that you could listen to for hours.
