The next day you woke up in the lounge room. You look at your watch 9:34 AM. The memory of last night swelled in your head, you smiled. You reached above you and turned off the lamp, you lay on the ground and someone groaned softly next to you. Your eyes flickered to the sound and you found a sleepy Sienna. “Too early,” she mumbled.

“Sienna,” you tried to wake her up.

“No.”

“Sienna… wake up.” You whispered.

In response she just groaned and pulled herself closer to you, she dug her nails into your shirt and her head rested in the crock of your neck. Her breath passed on your face and felt your lips tug up. You pulled her tighter but instantly released her again.

“Sienna.” You say, only louder this time.

Her body stilled and her eyes fluttered open. “Morning.” She offered you.

“Morning.”

“Sorry about last night, I honestly didn’t mean to fall asleep.” She didn’t move she only pivoted her head to face you.

“It’s fine.” You didn’t want to pull away just yet, maybe she didn’t either.

“Carson? Sienna?” You mother approached. “I thought I heard voices?”

“Morning, Ella.” Sienna smiled.

“Morning, sweetheart. How was your sleep?”

“Good, I am sorry about staying over… I didn’t mean to fall asleep.”

“You and that brother of yours are always welcome here.” You mother smiled at her. “Any way, I was just coming to tell you that Alex called…” You lost interest and looked at Sienna, she smiled and spoke to your mother, before she pulled away from you.

“Cya later, Carson.”

And then she was out the door. You watched her path for a moment before you looked back at your mother.

You began to rub your eyes trying to remove the sticky substance that was in the corners of them. “I’m sorry Mum, I should’ve slept on the couch. But I just fell asleep.” You offered her face still hard.

“Carson,” she started sitting down on the chair opposite you. “I love Sienna, and I know last night I told you to fight for her… but this… this isn’t what I meant.”

“We didn’t have… we didn’t do anything, mum. I just fell asleep.”

“I don’t want to nag you, but I don’t appreciate you sleeping on the ground with a girl… in our house.”

“She’s not a girl, Mum. She’s-“

“I know. Your girl, just keep it PG in the house please.”

“But we didn’t do anything!”

“I am just saying…” Your phone buzzed and you went to answer it. “Remember Sienna is complicated so don’t hurt her, because that creates a lot of complicated and sticky situations.” She left; you thought about what she said for a moment and then just shook your head answering the phone.

“Hello.” You answered.

“Carson?” Alex asked.

“What’s up?” You stood up and started to pack up all the pillows and blankets.

“Are you coming over, now?”

“Well, I sorta have to shower first. But, then I’ll be right over.”
