Sam couldn't sleep. Well being honest with himself he wasn't trying very hard, checking his phone every ten minutes after getting bored that he was still not asleep. Sighing to himself, he grabbed his shoes and a coat, deciding to go for a walk instead of trying to sleep any longer.

Quietly leaving the house was always going to be hard considering his mum woke up to every tiny sound. Finally leaving his house he crossed the road to head towards the nearby park that thankfully hadn't been taken over by druggy teens yet.

Glancing at the sky, he was surprised to find it was a full moon. Staring up he started thinking about the impossibilities in his future, keeping to himself the secret of his dream job: a writer. Sam knew there was almost no chance of him becoming even slightly well know, let alone creating a piece of writing that could go up against the great writers in history.

Liam: Can't sleep. You up? Thought about going for a walk but I don't wanna get lost :(

Sam: Come outside. Can't believe my tour guide job has extended to nights

Rolling his eyes, Sam sighed again. Waiting, leaning against a tree. The moonlight shone through his blonde hair making it look like silver. Liam thought he looked like an elven prince.

Sam jumped when Liam finally made his presence known.

"you sure do sigh a lot Sam" he turned to see Liam's teasing grin lighting his face "couldn't sleep either?"

"y-yeah I like walking... clears the head you know?" God Sam was awkward

"well I'm just so glad we both couldn't sleep because if I walked at night alone I would get seriously lost" Liam laughed "still can't get my head around these streets. I really don't know if I ever will to be honest"

"Well you're in luck tonight. Come on, lets go to the park" They walked slowly, shoulders brushing each others every now and again. They settled on a patch of grass in the centre of the park and Sam leaned back on his hands, closing his eyes.

"You really like nature Sam" Liam watched the other boy carefully, trying to read him. "this is the third time we have met coincidentally in a park"

Sam glanced up and looked quickly away to avoid the brown eyes he got distracted by "Yeah it helps me think... there is nothing better for me that when I can just process something in the fresh air. Oh and I meant to ask, why didn't you say anything about football? Do you think you'll make it your career? I mean you could go professional with all that" Sam gestured to Liam

Liam looked down going red, carefully processing whether this was the right time. He looked at Sam again and not wanting to ruin the open look in the normally closed face, he decided maybe not "ahhh well that's a story for another time... I don't want to do it seriously" he scratched the back of his neck out of habit "I kind of want to be a doctor... that is if my grades are good enough this year" Looking at Sam again to gage his reaction "what do you want to do after next year?"

Sam disregarded the question, instead asking another one on his mind, looking up again "do you ever think that this is all worthless, that nothing we want will ever be good enough to matter when we are gone? I can't imagine my life making any sort of impact on anything"

Liam's eyes widened at the openness of Sam before speaking measuredly "I think that no matter what people think they do, they will never truly know their impact on the world. No one can predict the power of their life until after they are gone...

Sam just stared at Liam as he rambled on

"...and I truly think that nothing matters but the affect you have on the people around you today. You probably think your mum is just your mum. But for her, she thinks about you even in the smallest things like picking up waffles because she knows you love them and seeing them reminds her of you. Sometimes..." Liam smiled "... the smallest things, can make you memorable and change someone else's life like meeting someone for the first time. It doesn't all have to be grand and time changing... it can be the smallest things" he trailed off

Sam processed Liam's rant before replying "maybe I should stop living for the future and start living in the present more" he agreed, smiling up at Liam

Liam backtracked for a moment "hang on but I want one question answered before that, what did you want to do that made you think like that?"

Sam blinked, and then finally let go "I... want to be a writer..." he mumbled, giving up something he had only told one other person in the world.

Liam, sensing this was a sensitive topic attempted to inject some humour "I knew you were a bookworm from when I first saw you" he was cut off when Sam shoved him so Liam was lying on his back laughing

"Piss off" Sam laughed, Liam was starting to love Sam's laugh.

Sam lay down next to Liam and they both watched the sky for a while almost drifting off.

"you don't think you'll make it?" Liam whispered

Sam sighed and got up, stretching his aching limbs from lying down too long "come on slowpoke, lets get back before we are too tired to go the school tomorrow... SHIT its the party tomorrow, we're definitely going to need sleep" Sam pulled Liam up, ignoring the spark between the boys' hands, letting go as soon as Liam was upright. The goose bumps on Sam's arm were because of the cold, right?

"Ha ha I'm sure we will be fine... I kind of want to see you fall asleep in maths again like last time" Liam thought back to yesterday when Sam blatantly fell asleep on his desk, only waking up suddenly when the bell rang. This had caused the boy to hit his head on the wall before cursing, and for Liam and Chris to cry laughing as Sam rubbed his head, narrowing his eyes at is two friends.

"yeah some friends you were" Sam hissed in mock anger.

They reached their houses and Sam thanked god it was dark so Liam couldn't see his blush. "ummm so I'll see you tomorrow?"

Liam snorted "umm yes Sam its been a week already, its kind of a given" before rolling his eyes and entering his house quietly

Sam grumbled something about rude people he will not be waiting for as he opened his own door before rushing as quietly as possible to his own bed, falling asleep immediately.
