After the weekend passed, Sam was feeling much better. His cuts had closed up and his bruises were turning green. Liam spent the days at Sam's house and they helped each other finish their homework. Sam's mum had called the headmaster and they were going in to meet with him on Monday.

Sam tried to get Liam to talk about it but it seemed Liam had shut down to the whole idea. Sam knew he was scared that everything that had happened back in his last school would happen again. He knew the best thing for Liam was to make sure Tyler could never touch him or Sam again. Sam knew it was his turn to be strong for Liam's

On Monday, Sam and Liam were seated in the headmaster's office. Sam relayed the whole event to the headmaster and deputy who were shocked.

"This is a serious accusation, Mr. Carson. I hope you know what you are accusing Tyler and his friends with"

Sam sighed but after looking at Liam's white face, he felt brave. He wasn't going to make Liam live in fear, nor would he let himself. "Yes. I know. I have evidence"

He produced the photos that Paige had taken of his face and a statement from a neighbour that Sam's mum had managed to find. The woman and heard the shouting and saw Tyler and his friends beating them.

The headmaster's eyes narrowed and he called to the deputy "Call this woman and verify this" turning to Sam, Sam said "I don't want the police involved"

The headmaster sighed "Well if you aren't going to press charges it is your decision but if this is true, they will still be expelled and you have reasonable evidence for a restraining order on them"

"Thanks, Sir" Sam didn't want to ruin Tyler's life because of this. He worried that this would lead Tyler down a life of crime. He only wanted Tyler to change his views and hopefully never do this again.

He had seen fear in Tyler's eyes and he knew that fear cause the most terrible things. He hoped that his kindness to Tyler would help this change.

They were made to leave as Tyler and his friends were brought in. They had to wait and see what the headmaster decided.

Liam still hadn't said anything so Sam decided that they didn't need to stay at school today. As they were leaving Emily and George caught up with them.

"Are you guys leaving?" Emily was worried at the look on Liam's face.

"Yeah. Life is a bit of a mess at the moment" Sam explained what happened and Emily's eyes filled with tears.

"Oh my god, Sam" she hugged him, noticing that Sam winced. He was still in a reasonable amount of pain.

George had a look of rage on his face "Even if they aren't kicked out, I will make sure they never play football again. Don't worry guys, the entire football team and everyone else I've spoken to is horrified, everyone supports you"

"Thanks George" Sam smiled at the tall boy "Look, we have to go. But don't tell anyone yet, we need to know what the headmaster is going to do before people find out"

Emily couldn't handle that Sam and Liam were in pain "You'll be ok"

Sam smiled "Thanks so much you two, bye" Sam walked away, pulling a still silent Liam behind him.

Sam didn't know how to reach Liam, it seemed he had gone into himself where Sam couldn't bring him back.

Sam bought them some food and they walked to the garden. Sam breathed deeply as they walked through the gates, sitting on the grass. He watched as Liam sat down slowly, as if waking up finally.

Liam's eyes met Sam's and he felt like he was safe with Sam. He could handle anything when Sam was near him.

But he couldn't help the image of Sam, someone who he had seen so much goodness from, broken on the ground.

"I-I can't stop seeing it" Liam whispered

Sam's eyes questioned Liam

"I can't stop seeing you... lying there" Liam sobbed suddenly "I did that to you"

Sam sighed "Liam you didn't do anything! I want to be with you, no matter what anyone tries to do about it" Sam smiled.

Liam thought he looked like an angel. "You're too good for me"

Sam rolled his eyes "Not this again! Liam you put up with so much of me and you need to stop thinking that. You get so upset with me saying things like that and here you are doing it too"

Liam was still looking at the ground

"Liam..." Sam lifted his chin "I'm starting to think we are perfect for each other. You bring out the best in me."

Liam's eyes shone with tears.

Sam took a deep breath "... and I love you"

Liam's jaw dropped and his silence scared Sam.

Sam suddenly got up, unable to look at Liam anymore. He panicked, thinking that he was moving too fast and this wasn't a good time.

Liam grabbed his arm "Where are you going?"

Sam stared at the other boy "I'm sorry that was too much. God this is the worst time"

Liam smiled finally and Sam felt like the sun had come out "If you left... how would I be able to tell you that I loved you too"

Sam stared at Liam "really?"

Liam chuckled "What do you mean 'really'? Sam I've been wanting to say that for ages" he stroked Sam's hair.

Sam's eyes started to fill with tears of happiness "I'm so sick of crying" he laughed

Liam took him into his arms "Then kiss me"

Sam smiled and kissed Liam gently, they couldn't believe the words that had passed between them.

Liam had never felt so light, he knew that there were angry people like Tyler in the world, but for the first time, he wasn't afraid of them anymore. Not with Sam standing beside him.

They stayed in the garden for the rest of the day, eating and talking. The words of love that had passed between them had not been talked about but both of them couldn't get rid of the blush that formed across their cheeks.

Sam had never been in love before, but it was like his whole being was full of it. Sam knew Liam was the best thing that had ever happened to him.
