Sam went back to his house to change into some nicer clothing for their leaver's event after spending the night at Liam's. The morning was beautiful and Sam wished he could spend the day outside with Liam instead of going to some stuffy event. Luckily the prom was after so it looked like a good day for it.

The leavers ceremony for their year constituted of everyone's parents coming to sit and watch their class get their certificate one by one. It was a stupid tradition because the parents only knew their child and a couple of their friends each.

Chris was up first, he had won the history prize and was going to Durham for History. They all cheered as he went up, Chris was very popular.

Then Holly was up, she was doing Politics at Edinburgh and she and Chris had decided that they should break up. They still loved each other but they wanted to be able to enjoy their time without feeling sad the other wasn't there with them. They made a promise to see what happened after university was over.

Liam was up next and everyone cheered even louder, Liam was still very popular and they still had to win the football league finals which was happening after the ceremony so everyone was obsessed with him.

Sam smiled as he watched his boyfriend walk up to the podium and felt so immensely happy. Liam had got a scholarship to Cambridge so the headmaster was probably thinking of ways to adopt Liam. Sam rolled his eyes.

Emily received her certificate, she was going to York for History of Art and as Yuna was going with her to York, they were going to try and stay together. Sam was sure they would, Emily was pretty strong and Yuna was infatuated with her.

It was Sam's turn to go up and as he received his certificate and his English prize, he heard Liam yelling over the clapping "THATS MY BOYFRIEND" and everyone laughed.

Sam wen bright red and glared at Liam, but this only caused the crowd to laugh harder. Sam was going to kill Liam.

They all got ready for prom together and Liam was uncharacteristically quiet.

"You ok?" Sam kissed Liam's exposed shoulder.

"Yeah... I'll be fine" Liam's head was full of thoughts about Chris and Holly's break up.

They met up with the others and went to prom, taking photos and greeting everyone. Sam noted that George had brought Finn.

"Hey! Finn! George!" Sam yelled pulling Liam after him "How are things?"

Finn beamed at his friend and brought a shy George to his side "We've made it official" He kissed George's cheek which made the other boy blush. Sam had never seen George so shy before, it suited him.

They spent the rest of prom chatting and dancing with people. But when Liam's silence got too much, Sam dragged him outside to the balcony.

"Ok what's going on, Liam"

Liam cringed and tried to find the words, he hated that everything would change after this, he wanted to see Sam smiling one more time before he said what he needed to say. "I'm worried about University. I mean we are both going to be close but our universities aren't exactly chilled out"

Sam followed "You want us to break up. After all we have gone through" Sam was starting to get angry.

Lim rushed to grab his cheeks "NO, SAM! I don't want to break up with you. Not ever. I'm just worried that I will be at university for six years doing medicine which is so time consuming and you will only be to university for three years"

Sam laughed with no humour "My course isn't as important at yours?"

Liam started "Sam that's not what I said! I don't want you waiting around for me. I can't give you the attention that I crave to give to you. What if you find someone else who can?"

Sam was angry now "You don't think I will be faithful to you? You don't think that no matter what time I have with you will be enough? How is breaking up going to help? Then we can't see each other at all!"

Liam started crying "Sam, I love you more than anything in the world, and because of that I don't want to hold you back"

Sam glared at the ground "This is your fear speaking, Liam. Stop being all noble! I love you and you love me so where is the issue" Sam spat.

"I don't want you to end up resenting me from stopping you having fun at uni, felling sad we aren't together"

"Well I'm not going to date anyone else, Liam. So you can take that idea and shove it up your ass"

Liam couldn't handle what he was doing but knew it was for the best "Just understand that I just want you to be happy"

Sam yelled at his love "YOU ARE THE ONLY THING THAT MAKES ME HAPPY" Sam started to sob.

He ran away from Liam, so angry that the one person who promised not to hurt him, had hurt him the most.

Pushing past his friends, he ran the whole way home and locked himself in his room, not even Paige could get him to come out and talk.

Liam tried his best to tell himself that he was doing it for Sam, but he couldn't help but feel like a piece of him had been torn out of him. His heart belonged with Sam, it always would. He just hoped that their relationship could survive this and the long wait until university was over and they could come together again. Liam hoped Sam would understand one day.

He didn't talk to anyone when the others questioned him on why Sam had left. He was about to walk out and go home when he heard the announcer speak.

"And the winners of Prom King and... well Prom King, are Liam Jones and Sam Carson!"

Cheers rose as the crowd tried to find the pair and with a sob, Liam quickly ran out of the building before they could find him.

I'm doing this for Sam. I'm doing this for Sam. But Liam couldn't help but feel like he had ruined everything.
