Sam and Liam spent the next few months spending every moment together, unable to spend another hour away from each other. They even bought a flat together in the city where Liam could work in the bigger hospitals there and Sam could be closer to the publishers who were working on more contracts for Sam.

That was until one day, Sam had to travel into the city to go for a contract signing for a new book he was writing. Liam jumped at the chance of the free day and drove to Sam's parents' house.

As Sam's mum opened the door and smiled at Liam "Hey! Do you need anything, Liam?"

Liam's hands were shaking "Can I talk to you all? Is everyone home?"

"Yes! I'll got and get Paige and my husband"

Liam moved to sit on the sofa, trying to stop his heart from beating so quickly. Sam's family settled on the sofa across from Liam and looked at him confused. Ben was at school so Liam didn't have to worry about the little boy overhearing.

"I wanted to respect you all by asking you first... I want you to know that I love you all. You helped my mum when she was sick and Sam when I..." Liam choked.

Sam's mum patted his knee "Liam, we know why you did it and actually we are glad you did because you are both stronger for it, you don't need to apologise again"

Liam shook his head "That's not what I was going to say..." Liam took a deep breath "I want to ask Sam to marry me"

Paige squealed "OH MY GOD YES FINALLY! I've been waiting for this for years"

Sam's mum and dad smiled with tears in their eyes "You don't need to ask us, Liam. You know you are already family" Sam's dad laughed.

Paige chuckled "yeah it's Sam's decision now"

Liam paled "Yes well I actually needed your help on ring sizes"

"He is probably slightly smaller than my size so I will come with you and you can try them on, on my finger and we will choose the size smaller"

Liam's was so glad he had asked for help.

"Does your mum and Lily know?" Sam's mum asked.

Liam smiled at the memory "Yeah it's been hard to keep them quiet"

They were all in high spirits as Liam left to go to the city with Paige to try and find a ring. As soon as they left, Sam's mum burst out crying and Sam's dad, smiling, moved to make her some tea.

Liam and Paige entered the jewelers and Liam was immediately overwhelmed "where do we start?"

Paige laughed at his face and pulled him towards the engagement rings "do you know what type you want?"

Liam took a deep breath and remembering the design he had made a couple of years back, they called over one of the assistants and with their help, it only took a couple of hours to find the ring.

From when Liam first saw it, he knew it was perfect. It was a silver band that had an emerald set into it with three diamonds on either side of the emerald. The emerald reflected the perfect moments that Sam and Liam had spent in the garden and in nature. It was simple yet sleek and completely Sam. It was perfect.

They ordered it in Sam's size and they were told it would take a week for it to come in. Liam was pained by the idea of waiting.
