Sam^

.............................................................................

Six years had passed since that night at prom and Liam was finally home. He had not seen Sam since, their families didn't even bother trying to invite each other round. Liam had passed his exams and he was now a pediatrician at the local hospital, he wanted to be as close as possible to his mother after she got sick.

Sam had moved home after university because... well no student has money. He was currently working for a publishing agency and was writing his own work on the side. He was making a big name in the literary world and even published his own book last year.

.............................................................................

Liam unpacked his things and stretched after being in the car for hours. Deciding to go for a walk, Liam found himself unconsciously waking to the garden where he first met Sam.

He started as he saw a familiar blonde sitting on his usual bench reading a book. Sam hadn't changed a bit. Well he was wearing more expensive clothes and his hair was shorter, but the longer he watched him, Liam felt like he was eighteen again.

He wanted to shout to him but he had lost his voice at the sight of the beautiful blonde.

Suddenly he heard a giggling and a blonde boy ran over to him.

"Hello, Sir! Are you ok? You're standing in a bush" the little boy giggled again.

Liam chuckled "you probably shouldn't be talking to strangers"

The little boy thought for a moment "I guess not" before running off.

Liam smiled after him and then his face dropped as he realised who that boy was.

Sam put down his book and stood up laughing, picking up the little boy he twirled them around. Liam could hear the boys screams of joy as Sam hugged him close.

Liam watched them and noticed the little boy looked a lot like Sam, with the same hair, but his eyes were bluer than Sam's- his mother's? Liam cringed at the thought.

Suddenly the little boy said something to Sam and then Sam looked up, making eye contact with the boy he loved all these years, once again.

Sam's grey eyes darkened as they stared at Liam's. Murmuring something to the little boy he put him down and picking up his book he took the little boy's hand and walked out of the garden. Liam sighed and accepted defeat, all these years he imagined Sam would run into his arms but he realised the truth isn't ever as good as the dream.

.............................................................................

Arriving home, Sam couldn't breathe. Liam. The boy that had broken his heart all those years ago. It's not like Sam forgot about Liam, but to actually see him in the flesh, it was too much.

"Mummy!!" Ben yelled "Uncle Sam is crying!" He was never subtle.

Paige came running down the stairs "God Sam what happened?"

Once Sam had calmed down he explained "I took Ben to the park like you said and then Liam appeared"

Paige gasped "You're kidding"

"No. He's back" Sam started to cry again.

Paige had moved back into their parents house temporarily because her husband (the secret boyfriend) Dan, was a soldier and was currently abroad.

"Oh Sam" Paige didn't know how to help him.

"I'll be ok, Paige, I'll get over it" Sam couldn't get the image of Liam standing there as he did back when they first met, except this time he was older and in a suit. He still hadn't changed, Sam thought, still the same handsome boy that was too good to be true.
