Bakari

Why was it, that whenever we enter a new relationship that our hearts were still tender from the previous one? I've asked myself this time and time again as I packed for my trip to Miami that I needed to get over my feelings for my ex wife. Even though our relationship was over, I couldn't lie to myself that I still had a few strands left that were emotionally attached to her.

Even after all of the bad things that went down in our relationship I still had feelings for her which wasn't fair to Ebony. I was given the opportunity to love again with Ebony, and my mind and my body yearned for her, but I just couldn't come to terms to be in a relationship again, with anyone. Not until I knew for sure that I was mentally and emotionally ready for a relationship.

We were back on good terms again and building our trust in a friendship and I was thankful she had given me a second chance. Ebony was a good woman who knew how to take care of my needs emotionally and physically. She was broken, just like I was and afraid to fall in love again. As I rummaged through the drawers in my closet to find my duffle bag for my shoes, a picture frame that held our wedding photo fell onto the floor causing the glass to break.

An exhale escapes his lips as he bends down to pick up the frame. Attached to the back of the frame, held Vanessa's wedding ring with a piece of tape. After taking the ring off of the now broken frame, he pinches the ring in between his thumb and pointer finger examining the simple diamond that once belonged to his grandmother.

He slips the wedding photo out of the cracks of class from the broken frame and grazes his thumb over the picture of Vanessa in her wedding dress.

Simpler times then, he thought to himself.

Her piercing words still rang through his memory, forever haunting him those late nights he slept alone. His heart ached, but he knew it was time to move on. She wasn't coming back, she was adamant about where she stood in her relationship with him. He tears the picture into shreds, before picking up the pieces to the broken picture frame and tosses the pieces into a trashcan by the door to his closet.

After shaking himself out of his feelings, he continues getting ready for his Miami trip with Ebony and picks up his phone to order Chinese Takeout online from their favorite go to spot in the city.

After a long grueling work day for both Ebony and Bakari the two were eagerly excited about their weekend getaway to Miami. As Bakari walked through the hallway to her apartment suite, he held not only food from Ebony's favorite Chinese takeout place, but also his duffle bag strapped around his shoulder for his over night stay. Once he arrives at her door he knocks on it a few times waiting patently for someone to open it to let him in. Seconds later, Ebony appeared at the door in one of her favorite lounge outfit combos: Nike shorts, and one of his oversized 'Michael Jackson' t shirts that she loved to sleep in and just kept it after he left it at her place months ago.

"Hey," Ebony smiles looking in his direction.

"Hey," Bakari says before bending down to kiss her lips.

Ebony eagerly accepts his kiss and feels him start to deepen the kiss. Before things got heated, she pulls away catching her breath and places her hands on his chest.

"Is that my shirt?" He asks, pointing to her tee.

"It's mine now, you left it a few months ago and never claimed it."

"Well, looks better on you anyway." He smirks bending down to peck her lips once again.

"You bought my favorite you really are trying to get on my good side." Ebony chuckles against his lips.
