Authors note: ahh I'm so happy that there are still people reading this story! Derek fixed the collar of his shirt, running his hands through his curls once more before he walked upstairs and into the bathroom. Meredith was placing the bracket on the back of her earring. He couldn't help but smile at her, she was absolutely glowing. Since this was her third pregnancy, she had popped much sooner and the tiniest bump was under her tight-fitted dress. If you had just seen her on the street, you wouldn't even notice but he did.
"You look, wow," his eyes looked her up and down.
"Stop, I feel so bloated and fat. My boobs have grown a whole cup size and this dress is too tight," she complained. She had only known for a week now and she felt awful, the symptoms set on quicker than either of her other pregnancies.
"Our baby is in there, you look like the most beautiful woman in the entire world," he slowly moved to her as he placed his hand on her abdomen and his lips found hers. She smiled against his lips and pulled away.
"Reservations at seven," she reminded him. He nodded and lead her downstairs and to the car. He opened the car door for her before getting in himself. They drove in the silence, enjoying each other's presence. They got to the restaurant and he lead her inside, a hand rested on the small of her back as he guided her to their table.
"I am so grateful that Lexie and Mark agreed to have the kids tonight," she said before their waitress came with their drink order.
"Me too. We needed a night to ourselves," he smiled as he sipped on his water. He wasn't drinking since Meredith couldn't drink either.
"How long do you think we can go without telling everyone?" She ask.
"I have no idea but honey you are starting to show," he pointed out.
"I know. I didn't show with Scarlett until my third trimester and she was an eight pound baby," Meredith replied.
"Well the body is use to stretching that way since it has before and knows what to do. You probably don't have to worry about him or her being that large. Zoe was barely six pounds," he replied.
"I don't know. I have big babies. I wasn't sure that CJ was going to fit. He was 8.15," she said as Derek laughed.
"I couldn't tell," he said with a wink and she shook her head with a smile.
"Stop," she smiled.
"Well I think we should tell the kids after we get the ultrasound next week and get the genetic testing back," he suggested.
"So we can tell them if it is a brother or sister?" She raised her brow.
"Yes. I love that technology has advanced this far. I hated waiting those twenty weeks with Zoe," he said.
"Me too. I have been reading all this new stuff on babies. You know that they have so many baby gadgets now. They have this think that mimics the womb," she said with delight. He was almost surprised in the difference that he seen since they first found out until now.
"We can get one," he nodded. They placed their food orders and waited patiently.
"I also think we need a bigger bed. I want to co-sleep but you take up most of the bed so we have to get something big enough for all of us," she chuckled.
"Are you asking me to move in with you?" He raised a brow at her.
"If you want," she said sheepishly.
"Of course," he smiled and reached across the table. The food had arrived and they ate at a slow pace.
"How are we going to do this?" she asked curiously
"What do you mean?"
"Moving in together, telling the kids and everyone. I don't know, I just don't want people to talk and know about our personal life," she said honestly. She wasn't into gossip at all, she already hated that everyone at the hospital knew they were together and the nurses loved to talk.
"We don't have to tell anyone except our friends and family, the hospital doesn't have to know until you are ready," he assured her.
"I don't know, I mean I want us to move on from this. I'm tired of being defined as the widow that is suppose to mourn the loss of her husband for the rest of her life," she sighed.
"I know, it's hard and people can be mean but if you want to slow down, I don't have to move in," he replied.
"I want to, I want to move on with my life, I want to move on with you," she smiled at him.
"Then we say screw them. Our business is not theirs," he winked and she chuckled a second.
"I love you," she replied. They finished their meal and paid for the check. He walked her to the car and let her get in first before he got in and started the car. He turned the radio up as a favorite song of his came on, it wasn't The Clash but he had always loved this song due to his mother. It reminded him of his childhood, watching the love between his parents while his father was still alive. He admired their love for one another and couldn't believe he had found someone that he could share that same love with.
"Heard this song before?" He asked. It was Let's stay together by Al Green.
"I have," she giggled lightly.
"I-I'm so in love with you," he began to sing along. He snapped with one finger as his other hand stayed on the wheel.
"Whatever you want to do," she sang back to him, a large smile spread across his face. She loved how carefree she felt with him.
"Is alright with me," he carried out the e sound a little longer than what the song said.
"Cause you make me feel, so brand new," she sang. They took turns on each verse, almost as if they were made to sing together. He started dancing slightly in his seat and she had a hard time holding in her giggles to keep up singing.
He watched her get lost in the music with him, his stomach filled with butterflies, he couldn't imagine his life without this woman. She was absolutely beautiful, her honey-colored hair swung around her face as she giggled and sang along with him. This love he had for her brought him back to his high-school days. He watched closely as the small crows feet beside her eyes wrinkled with her laughter, the beautiful sound of her laughter. It was better than the music playing through the speakers.
"Let's stay together," the both belted the last verse, looking at each other as they were stopped at the red light. They both leaned in at almost the same time to kiss one another.
"I needed this," she breathed. Their life has been so stressful the past few weeks with Amelia joining the hospital staff, the pregnancy news, their whole life was changing at such a rapid pace and she needed a moment to step back and realize how much she really loved this man. She could see her with him for the rest of her life. She loved Charles with her whole heart but she is sure now that somehow, Derek was the real love of her life. Fate, God, or whatever may be out there was surely saving him for the time she needed someone the most and she was happy that he had came along when he did. She wasn't angry any longer, she wasn't sad or filled with regret when she was with Derek. It was happiness, pure bliss almost. Something about the way he made her feel was like she was missing something her entire life and this was it. She thought her life was complete two years ago but she has come to realize that she still had so much more she wanted. She never knew she wanted a third baby but she was excited for the future.
