Chapter 37 (Keeley POV)

“So tell me everything” Layton said as we sat down in a small coffee shop in Aberthary. With most of us still recovering from multiple injuries, we hadn’t been able to leave.

“About what?” I asked coyly, know exactly what she wanted.

“Wes of course!” she squealed.

“Fine, what do you want to know?”

“Everything!”

“Ok describe everything.”

“Ugh you're killing me K. Start from the beginning” Layton groaned.

“Well when they first kidnapped me I hated Wes. He was a complete ass to me…” A smile crept onto my face as I told Wes’ and my story. When I finished out lattes had long since been drank and Layton had almost cried twice.

“Holy shit K, you went through all of that, for me?”

“Of course I did Lay, you're my sister” I replied honestly.

“But you and Wes” she fanned herself dramatically. “How’s he taking the whole half-angel thing?”

“As well as the guy can I guess; Wes has been through a lot, more then you could even fathom. He’s a little messed up, but he’s my Wes and I wouldn’t have him any other way” I said.

“Awwwe Keeley’s finally in love!” Layton teased.

“Shut up” I blushed.

“What about you? Any of the hunters sticking out to you?”

“Hmmm” Layton leaned away from me, a slight smirk on her face.

“One is!” I exclaimed, “Tell me tell me tell me!”

“Keeley” she whined.

I just raised an eyebrow.

“Fine” she caved.

“You know Mars…”

“Mars?!” I exclaimed.

“Yea, when you were unconscious he really helped me through it. He went with me to visit you and Wes, then held me in his arms when I bawled my eyes out afterwards” she smiled.

“Awwwe Lay that’s adorable” I said.

“How old is he anyway?” she asked.

“Recently turned 21” I replied. My lips stretched into a small smile when I remembered that night. A little while later Layton and I headed back to the motel. When we finally got to the door I was practically skipping. Finally I could see Wes again and kiss him and…

“Keeley! Thinking we were going to skip angel training did we?” Daniel’s amused smirk appeared out of nowhere.

“Guess not” I grumbled, wandering over to him.

“What’s the plan for today?” I asked tiredly.

“We’re going to take a longer-distance flight today” Daniel replied happily. I groaned. I hadn’t seen Wes all day and I want going to until tonight, now that Daniel got a hold of me.

“Why the long face sweetheart?” he asked as we fell into step.

“Well…” I sighed. “I just wanted to see Wes, since I haven’t all day.”

Daniel’s smile slipped from his face and he turned away from me. “Stop bitching you’ll see him tonight” he grumbled.

“Excuse me?” I asked.

“Forget it, fly with me?” “Fine” I agreed grudgingly. Daniel was off the ground in seconds, but my feet stayed firmly planted on the pavement. This was the hardest part of flying, the take-off. My eyes slipped shut as I focused my energy onto rising into the sky. Finally, I felt my feet leave the earth and enter the realm of the sky. I’d never admit this, but flying was amazing. The feel of the cool air against your skin and the wing whipping through your hair, it was amazing.

“Come on Keeley, keep up” Daniel laughed. As a full angel he was much faster than me and seemed to relish in that fact. We flew tandem, side by side as always. Daniel looked like a natural flying, he eyes on the never-ending horizon. As much as I never wanted to admit, Daniel was hot. Not in a way that I’d want t jump his bones, but more in a way that I appreciated the view.

“Whatcha’ lookin at sweetheart?” Daniel asked.

“You look like a natural flying” I said truthfully.

“Because I am, I’ve been around awhile.”

“How long?”

“Well, angels reincarnate every 400 years and I’m about 105 years now.”

“Whoa, I’m handing out with an old man” I teased. Daniel just chuckled.

“Daniel,” I asked tentatively.

“Yea Keeley?”

“Will I reincarnate every 400 years?”

“No, you’ll die for real at about 200.”

“200!” I exclaimed. “I don’t wanna live that long!”

“Why not?”

“Because I wanna die human!”

“Oh” Daniel fell silent for a little. “Begin decent now” he commanded. A few minutes later, the bare soles of my feet landed in the warm sand of a small island.

“Wow, Daniel, this is amazing” I said, breathless in its beauty. It was small, no larger than 50 feet across and white sand coated the entire island. A few trees sprung up randomly but it was mainly bare.

“I saw this on the flight over, thought it was pretty cool” he said nonchalantly.

“Honestly, thanks Daniel” I said.

“Come ‘ere” he said and held out his arms. I hugged him quickly, but Daniel held on.

“I’m so glad you’re alive. I mean, it’s my job to keep you guys alive and if I failed again… the boss wouldn’t be as lenient.”

“Again?”

“The last crew of hunters I had all died.” I gasped.

“Yea, my partying took over. I was too drunk, high; you name it, to save them. These guys are my last chance” Daniel said.

“Oh” I looked down at the sand.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to unload all of that on you” he turned away.

“No, Daniel, I like seeing this side of you. All I really knew before was what Wes told me.”

“And I’m assuming those weren’t nice things?”

“Ha! Far from it” I chuckled. We stayed on that island for maybe another hour, and then our invisible wings beat towards home. Home where Wes was.

When I touched down in front of the motel, I was in Wes’s arms immediately. “God I missed you today” he said, hugging me tightly. Over his shoulder, I saw a slightly hurt expression cross Daniel’s features.

“I missed you too Wes” I replied, burying my face in his shoulder.
