The sound of her little tune practically scared all animals away. They were alone thanks to her but she probably didn't expect anything bad to happen, judging by her happy demeanor. From where her cheerful attitude originated from was another question to wrap around his thoughts.
Just what did she like about her situation? The darkness of the night? The loneliness of the woods? Did she even think she was in a dangerous situation? Far away from any human soul; the perfect prey on a silver plate for him.
It was tempting to just surprise her from behind and finally retrieve his knife back. But some part of him wanted to wait a little longer and maybe find out what drew her to the forest in the middle of the night. Was it the thrill of being unprotected by the town's curious eyes? Did she like the adrenaline rush when he would chase after her?
„Won't you spare me over 'till another year", her sudden words cut through the silent air like paper; her voice quiet but very clear to his ears. His first reaction was a combination of shock and panic. He thought she directed her question at him, but the slightly soft tone of her voice indicated to her singing.
Of course, he calmed his nerves down, she couldn't have noticed me. He held a short distance between them, making sure she wouldn't leave his sight while watching to not get into hers. „Well, what is this that I can see...", a sigh left passed her lips as she continued, „with ice-cold hand taking hold of me~."
And what if it was actually meant for him? She could have started to sing to overplay her fear right now but wouldn't she sing something less... scary? Something that would calm her down instead of frightening her more? The lyrics just seemed to fit his role in her life more than anything.
The younger girl only took a flashlight with her, which didn't seem to lighten up much of the blackness the trees provided the forest with. She definitely didn't plan on a trip with a picnic; Frank truly believed that she wasn't that naive and dumb. Then what else drew her here?
„When God is gone and-", her lips froze at the sudden noise behind her. No, she wasn't dumb but she did hope she would reach the campfire a bit sooner to avoid another confrontation with him. The Legion wasn't the sneekiest.. at all. His footsteps came heavy to the ground; his boots clicking every time. The singing was to scare away any animal so she could concentrate on his movement behind her more.
