She hadn't heard any footsteps since she started running. The voices from before grew louder and closer, indicating to her reaching her goal. Even the trees seemed to be closer to each other, giving the forest the dark and gloomy atmosphere it always held.
Slowly, the young girl switched to a moderate pace; not feeling threatened anymore. The aching in her shoulders showed otherwise, however, she was sure it would lessen with the time being. Crows rushed to the direction she was heading with their obnoxious yelling as she calmed her rapidly beating heart down. Her (E/C) eyes were fixated on the ground while she listened to any alarming noises. Suddenly, she heard nothing anymore.
The voices were gone and the crows headed in the opposite direction hurriedly. She halted in her movement and watched the birds in a rush like they were getting away from something inherently evil. However, as soon as she concentrated on the path before her, concern infested her thoughts. A frown was on her lips as she was greeted with the blackness of the forest.
Where did she come from? And where was she supposed to go next? Her heartbeat increased as she could feel it in her throat. Pure silence and the copypasted trees were everywhere...
Her (E/C) eyes stung at the sheer panic bubbling inside her. No, she wasn't going to cry because of that. She wasn't lost! She knew where she had to go!
Her hands went up to her face staining it with dirt as she scratched at her skin. Where to..?
Her nails dug under her teeth but she couldn't care less in the heat of the moment. Where to..?
She turned around again, searching the place for any sign; a sign that would lead her. Where to..?
„Hello?“, her right hand went to her throat as she turned around again. A person... A person!
„What is someone like you doing here?“, he spoke, his voice laced with calmness. That was exactly what (Y/N) needed right now.„I-I kinda, uhm, I'm kinda lost.. here“, the younger girl hated how timid her voice could sound when she talked to strangers. But who wouldn't be frightened when they stood opposite to someone... someone like him.
He was definitely older, and stronger. His frame stood tall as he looked down at her. The (H/C) haired was glad there was a remarkable distance between them. She couldn't make his face out because of the darkness around them, but something told her he shouldn't be here either.
„And who are you?“, her body was already half-turned away from him; ready to sprint away from any danger. „Oh, I'm Joey. I'm a hunter and I was just on my way back into town. The direction you were heading... It would have led you deeper into the forest“, he said as he stepped closer; a smile on his face.
Liar...
She was turned away from him when he approached her, so he was walking in the same direction as she, how could she go deeper when he would be going into town?
„Oh, uhm, thank you a lot“, but even if she knew he wasn't telling the truth, what should she do now? He came closer with every second, making all alarms inside (Y/N)'s head to go off and it was an awful sound to have in your mind. „Let's go. I'll show you the way out.“
„(Y/N)?“, her head snapped into the direction the hunter came from. If she hadn't forgotten how to cry, she definitely would do it now. „Kate..“, her own voice was just above a whisper like she didn't want him to hear her.
There she stood, the blonde older girl, like a lucky charm. „Do you know each other?“, now he was directly next to her as he waited patiently for (Y/N)'s next words. Her (E/C) eyes focused on him again while she slowly moved towards Kate. „Uh- yes, we're friends. Anyway, thanks for your help but I'm going to my friends now“, the younger one just wanted to leave as fast as possible. Luckily, Joey didn't seem to be wanting her company for longer as he nodded with a smile and headed in the opposite direction from them.
Once he was out of sight, (Y/N) breathed out a breath she didn't know she was holding. He was dangerous, she just knew it. She felt it like she did with that one member of the Legion.
„My God, what are you doing out here? We all thought you escaped but then why are you in the area of the killers?“, Kate's worried expression sent shivers down the younger girl's spine.
She was where..?
