When he stepped closer, (Y/N) noticed the lack of the hideous mask obscuring his face, instead, she was greeted with a deep scowl. He didn't even try to hide his anger when he got too close for comfort. Putting both hands up against the tree behind the younger girl, he trapped her for answers.
„You know, I really thought you weren't that stupid but you've outdone yourself this time", his sharp voice cut through the thick air around them, making (Y/N) afraid the other survivors might find them. She wanted to reply so badly, to tell him what the reason behind all this was and justify her actions. However, the words were stuck in her throat with just one look into his dark brown eyes.
He knew everything already; figured her out with one glance like an open book. And at the same time, she couldn't justify something she didn't stand behind anymore. Regret was an emotion she was used to already but this time it felt ten times worse because now she disappointed someone with her idiotic decision.
„What? Did the cat get your tongue? Don't tell me this is about your stupid friends. How are you planning on getting them out anyway?", his gloved hands traveled down from beside her head to her shoulders, gripping onto them. But (Y/N) couldn't trust her voice yet.
„How are you even gonna get yourself outta here?", Frank captured her eyes with his own; it was impossible for her to look away. Her throat became dry like dust clogged itself in her mouth and blocked the sounds to come out, her heart pounding in her ears - she mistook it for a headache first. And suddenly, she felt so hot, too hot right now. Her eyes burned and she tried to blink her misery away at first. Although she knew what was coming, the younger girl refused to accept her own sadness. Not here. Not in front of him.
But it was too late already. Casting her watery (E/C) eyes down to the ground, she pressed her hands against her chest, holding them protectively in front of herself. The (H/C) haired had to say something now. She couldn't just expect Frank to figure out everything on his own. Even though he was probably capable of doing that just fine.
After noticing her change in demeanor, he immediately let go of her shoulders and took a step back, watching the pitiful sight.
„I don't know", was the only comprehend sentence that left her, before her tears started running again. Danger seemed to attract her how light a moth.
Her hands went up to her face, shielding her eyes from his vision; ashamed of the mess she presented to him. She started to sob again while trying her best to muffle all noise coming from her.
„I didn't think this through", and she couldn't remember a time where she did. „I'm sorry."
Frank told her not to go back. He told her it was better for her to stay. He knew what was best for her. And she didn't listen. Like a child. No wonder everyone treated her like that when she behaved exactly how a kid would.
(Y/N) didn't see him nor did she hear a sound from him, but she knew he was still there. Watching her wallow in self-pity. Why did he even spend time with someone this immature and irresponsible? He had friends who knew what they wanted unlike herself and yet he always came back to check on her. To talk and hang out with her.
A sigh left Frank when she heard him come closer again. He wrapped his arms around her shivering form and laid her head onto his chest. (Y/N)'s temperature immediately rose to a maximum. Her ears felt hot just like her cheeks when she felt his one hand on her back and his other one on her head, playing with her (H/C) locks.
„It's fine. I'll get you outta here just like before", her cries died down when he spoke with that soothing voice of his. He was right. She managed to escape two times already thanks to him, a third time shouldn't be too complicated.
Slowly nodding against the cool leader of his jacket, she remembered what Meg told her. Before (Y/N) could leave, she had to at least try her idea out. It wouldn't hurt to know if it worked or not. But that's something she should tell him later when she wasn't bawling her eyes out like a toddler.
The Legion leader put his head on her own, only to slide down into the crook of her neck immediately after, whispering reassuring words into her ear. The younger girl was so scared of losing someone she cared about again, that her feelings overwhelmed her all at once. She couldn't move in his presence, afraid of doing the wrong thing and ruining the moment. Even if someone of the other survivors came here and caught them, she wouldn't be able to move a single muscle. She didn't want to go although it was about time.
His deep breaths, his steady heartbeat and his warmth. Frank devoted all this and his attention to her now. How was she supposed to part away from him?
Her body relaxed against him and she allowed herself to close her eyes and take his intoxicating scent in. There was no hint of blood like when they first met. Only the smell of the wet forest ground and some kind of men deodorant. Her voice was muffled by his jacket when she opened her mouth to speak again.
„Thank you."
