Loyal

What does it even mean?
To be loyal?

To stay near by
And act as a little puppy would?
Lapping up every word.

To always be trustworthy?
Being a friend,
Being supportive,
Being present.

Do we seek the right words
According to their meaning.
Or use them
However we want
And assume they fit?

Loyalty.
It's just the opposite of betrayal.

To stay on the same side.
To be there.

But is anything
Ever truly loyal?
Even my thoughts
Change side,
Defecting at a sign of opposition.
Accommodating,
Justifying,
Changing.

Even I am not loyal.
Not even to myself.

I do not stay on my side.
Especially if I am wrong.
I will go against myself
If that is the right thing.

After all if your mind is not loyal,
You can just
Change your idea of what it means
To be truly
Loyal.
