Staying up
As the sun rises and falls,
Seeing the whole of another day.
We lay awake
Waiting for midnight-
The time our secrets meet.
A hushed conversation,
Spoken,
Whispered beneath sheets.
Everyone's asleep but us.

We are distracted throughout the day,
Looking for each other
In everything we say.
We laugh when we remember
Something stupid
We'd heard yesterday.

Talking is fun.
Conversations feel stolen.
But the night feels blessed
As it slips away
And changes into day.

I haven't seen you in forever.
But I don't really miss you.
I've heard your voice
Till my eyes can't stay open
And your throat is far past dry
And my giggling almost wakes someone up.
We've stolen dreams.
The night is ours.
Perhaps someday this'll be a distant memory.
But I'll remember you
Whispering
You should really get some sleep.
But I'd stay all night just to hear your voice.
As I giggle into the mic.
And you smile into your pillow.
I'm already dreaming so don't worry about sleep.
