Heartbeats

He didn't mean to get dependent. It started as a habit. When he first got his powers, Peter listened to May and Ben's heartbeats when he couldn't sleep. Ned's heartbeat when trying to block out Flash. His own when he was out patrolling. But then, he listened to Ben's heart as it went out. He then began to listen when he was paranoid, making sure everyone was alive and safe and well. So when he lost May to her cancer, he only grew to strive for heartbeats more. When he was home alone, hearing only his heartbeat, it made him feel like he was in the hospital again, holding May's hand as it went cold, listening as her heart went out the same way as Ben's. At least they were together now. So when he was left alone, after Tony adopted him, he asked for someone to stay with him. He wasn't taken seriously, Spiderman needs a babysitter? and so Peter was left. He invited over Ned and Mj so he wouldn't spiral, without asking his dad for permission. He figured if it was for the sake of his mental health, a little Star Wars marathon wouldn't hurt. Of course Tony would understand, but Peter decided to invite them to spend the night and have FRIDAY record Tony's reaction to the teens sprawled out across his living room in the morning. It was a weeked so they were going to be fine anyways. So they watched their movies, ate their popcorn, and fell asleep. Peter hadn't been sleeping right because finals were coming up and so he slept way longer than he expected. When he finally woke up he heard thre heartbeats and settled into listening to them, thinking it was Ned, Mj, and Tony. He walked into the kitchen and saw Pepper and Tony eating. "Oh, hey Underoos. We sent your friends home. Ned looked like he was gonna faint when he saw me. Loved every second of it." Peter chuckled. "'Is Rhodey or Bruce here?" Peter asked, still listening to the three heartbeats. It was weaker, but it was there for sure. Pepper smiled. "It's just us today. I was hoping we could go see that new movie out today, as a normal family." Peter smiled. The three spent the day together. When they ordered chinese and came home, only then did Peter gather the courage to ask. "Mrs. Stark, um, weird question, it's probably not right, just me, but um, are you pregnant?" Tony dropped his fork and looked at Pepper slowly, who had her eyebrows knit together in confusion. "What? No, why do you ask?" Peter blushed, not wanting to tell them about his heartbeat secret. "Ever since the spider bite I've had enhanced sensed. So, I can hear thing I shouldn't be able to. Like there's a couple four blocks away having sex. Super uncomforatble for me but oh well. Ever since Ben... and then May... I listen to heartbeats sometimes and I hear three today, excluding me." Peter became very interested in his shoes as Tony and Pepper looked at each other. "FRIDAY?" Tony asked, voice shaking." After a beat, FRIDAY replied. "Scans show that Mrs. Boss is in fact pregnant. Congratulations."

At aproxamately 5:11 in the morning, December 25th, Morgan Maria Stark was born. Peter became a bg brother. It was the best day of his life.
