|Jace POV|
Alec's eyes widen in shock, and he opens and closes his mouth, but no words come out. Isabelle stares at me, shaking her head in disbelief.

"Uh, Jace? We're going to need a little more information than that, man," Simon says.

"Well, I don't know what else to say. Marcus is a Shadowhunter that I met in Starbucks twenty minutes ago. He didn't know he was a Shadowhunter until I told him, so I said we could help him. End of story," I say, running a hand through my hair.

"So you just allowed him in? Without consulting us at all? We don't even know this guy, Jace. He could be a freakin demon in disguise!" Isabelle says.

"I can honestly say that I am not a demon, partially because I have no idea what they even is," Marcus says, looking very confused.

"Guys, he's got the Mark of a Shadowhunter. He's one of us," I say, motioning at Marcus to unroll his sleeve.

Marcus puts his arm out for Alec, Isabelle, and Simon to see, and the Mark appears. The exact same Mark that every Shadowhunter in the world has. Sebastian, Clary, Josh, and Melissa lean in to see it too.

"By the Angel. You're right. He's a Shadowhunter," Isabelle says.
"Could someone please just tell me what that even means?" Marcus says impatiently.

"A Shadowhunter is us. We are Shadowhunters," Sebastian says impatiently, running a hand through his hair. I can tell he's frustrated.

"Yes, I know, but-"

"Listen up, newbie. We are Shadowhunters. We are just like you. That's all we're going to tell you, because we don't know how we didn't know about you before today. We need to figure it out before higher powers do, so we can explain it to them. So if you could just shut up for two seconds, maybe we could figure this screwed up situation a little quicker. Clear?" Clary snaps, her eyes fiery. She steps back from him a little, since she had been stepping closer to him with every words she said previously. My eyes widen at her outburst, and I smile slightly.

"C-clear," Marcus says. He clears his throat and then says it clearly. "Clear."

"Good," Clary says, and she turns to me. "What do we do, Jace?"

"I guess we should-"

"You're turning to him? You're turning to Jace in the middle of a crisis? I thought you weren't even talking to him!" Josh says indignantly.

"Yeah. Yeah, I am, Josh. If that's a problem, then maybe you should head on back to Florida," Clary says, her eyes fiery again. She takes a deep breath, shaking her head a little. "Sorry. I'm just...stressed."

"It's fine, Clary. But since when are you talking to him?" Josh asks again.

|Clary POV|
I turn my head slightly and look at Jace. We lock eyes, and I ask him a silent question. He nods his head slightly, and I take another deep breath. (One can never take too many deep breaths)

"Since Jace and I decided to get back together," I say, and smile weakly.

Everyone stops. Time freezes as the whole room absorbs the information I had just shared. I close my eyes and wait for the response. When it comes, it comes exactly as I expected it.

Alec: "Cause that's exactly what this house needs. You lot back together!"

Isabelle: "Thank God you figured it out on your own. I was ready to get involved, and we all know that's dangerous."

Sebastian: "Jesus Christ, Clary! You know that's a stupid idea. What are you thinking?!?"

Josh: "Terrific." (Sarcasm, obviously)
Simon: "Wait a second. You guys were officially broken up?"

I stare at Simon after his outburst. "You mean it wasn't obvious that we were broken up?"

"I mean, I kinda assumed it. Jace looked like someone died everyday for three years, and you've barely spoken to him while you've been back," Simon says, scratching the back of his head awkwardly.

"Yeah, well. We broke up before... before Clary left," Jace says.

"Clary? Why'd you leave?" Simon asks calmly. I can tell he's trying to hide his anger.

"I-I just did," I whisper, my voice trembling as I try not to lie to Simon, but also keep him from finding out what happened with Jace.

"It's because of him isn't it," Simon says, still deathly calm as he asks the question with a dull look in his eyes. "You left because of Jace."

"I-"
"What did he do, Clary? Tell me," Simon demands.

"Simon, stop. It's fine," I say nervously as I watch Simon get angrier and angrier.

"It's not fine, Fray," Simon shouts. "He did something to make you leave, I know he did. You wouldn't leave your mom or Luke here in New York, and I..." he trails off, and then speaks again, much quieter. "I would like to think you wouldn't leave me."

"Do we have to do this now, Simon? In front of all of our friends?" I ask, desperate to change the subject.

"Yes. We're doing this now, Clary," Simon says. "You're going to answer my question truthfully, or I'm going to walk out of that door, and I'm not coming back."

"Simon!"

"Stop, Isabelle. That's my decision."

"Simon, I..." I sigh, running my fingers through my hair. I feel a tear of frustration slip out of the corner of my eye, and I glance at Sebastian. His eyes look with mine, and he gives me a nod that seems to say Do what you want; it's your decision. I turn away from him, looking back at Simon.

"Clary. You don't have to tell me, but if you don't, I'm leaving. Forever," Simon says, trying to be firm, but his voice wavers at the end of his sentence.

"Simon, you can't leave! You don't have anywhere to go!" I cried out, desperate for a solution.

"That is my problem, Clary. What is your decision?" he asks, deadly calm.
"I..." I glance around the room, my eyes wide with frustration and confliction. Everyone stares back at me, some looking sympathetic, some angry. Only one face was free emotion. Simon. He stares back at me, his eyes burning memories of our friendship into my brain. "I..."
