it was currently cyrus' third period class, and buffy and andi sat behind him.

cyrus groaned quietly in frustration. he turned around in his seat, looking at them. "the hell do you guys want?" he whisper yelled.

"did you hear that marty and tj broke up? apparently he likes some other guy." andi whispered back.

cyrus' face went pale. tj and marty were never even dating, though cyrus couldn't help but wonder if he was that other guy, or if tj had gotten over cyrus him that quickly.

"why are you telling me this, huh? why isn't marty?" cyrus rolled his eyes, scoffing. he was really annoyed, and didn't feel like getting yelled at.

"marty's at home right now. i think he's dealing with the breakup. left last period." buffy nodded.

cyrus sighed. "i'm not listening anymore. paying attention!" he turned back around and faced the board.

truth was, marty was home from school. he did go hone last hour.

but the breakup wasn't the reason.

marty shut his eyes tightly, fighting the urge to cry.

it was a voice from behind the couch he was sitting on. it was brooks, who had stayed home that day due to some appointment he had later.

marty opened his eyes, which were brimmed with tears, and wiped them. he nodded.

"no, you're not. what's going on?" brooks climbed over the couch and sat next to him.

"it's just- i have this crush, and i think i messed things up. well, i didn't, but i'm involved." marty sighed, rubbing his hands to his face.

"what's her name?" brooks asked. "ooh, is it buffy? andi?"

marty shook his head. "his name is jonah."

brooks had a look in his eyes marty couldn't quite place. "oh my god, oh, you like jonah. you're gay."

marty shook his head again. "bi."

brooks nodded. "bi and trans. what a story."

marty chuckled softly, shaking his head. he then told brooks the whole story, reed using his dead name, puting him to his friends, etc.

"well, man, i'm always here, okay?" brooks put his hand on marty's shoulder. "i might be your stupid little brother, but sometimes i know more than you think."

"whatever, brooklyn."

"you know i'm helpful, mary ann."
