-----Yvonne Meyers looked at her watch . It was half-pass seven. Usually Ms. Lila and Ms. Pricilla would be by her house at 7 Am,sharp.
It was now 7:45 and to say she was worried, was an understatement. She was pacing up and down, her phone under her vice grip. She was phoning them since 7:15, but neither Ms. Lila nor Ms. Pricilla were answering their phones.
What had happened in the bookshop more than a week ago, was swept under the rug. Nobody mentioned Ms. Lila's hysterical breakdown. Somehow, Yvie felt as if that day,was the reason for them being late.
Just when she had decided to dial the local police, she heard her front door sway open. She ran from where she was standing in her kitchen, to her front door.
What she saw, made her stand stil, dead in her tracks. Ms. Lila and Ms. Pricilla were standing by her front door. But, they were not alone. They were walking towards her, smiling. Each of the arms looped into a strangers arms.
They were not really taking note of Yvie. For, all three of them were consumed with each other. Yvie felt like she was intruding.
Yvie, anxious, decided to speak up. She nervously said, "Ms. Lila, Ms. Pricilla, I was so concerned when you didn't arrive at 7:00. I tried phoning both your phones and your house phone, but nobody answered. I'm glad that you're okay."
All three of them looks at Yvie. The unknown person smiled at her and said in a voice that was soft yet had an undertone on roughness too it, "You must be Yvonne Meyers. It's great to finally meet you. I've only heard good things about you. My name is Steven Tarintino." He held his hand out. For some reason, Yvie felt her body taking a lead and before she knew it, her hands were wrapped under Steven's rough ones.
When her brain finally decided to come to the party with the rest of her body, she realised who he was. This was the same man, whose cottage she's renting. Steven Tarintino.
When he released her hand, she felt a strange coldness shiver through her spine, but she shook it off and smiled at him politely , before directing her attention to the ladies.
They were already making their way to the kitchen and chatting like nothing was amiss. Part of her wanted to follow her. However, another part of her wanted to stay in Stevens presence. She did not know why, but he made her feel safe and secure. Which was absurd in her mind, for she barely knew the man.
She immediately mentally shook the warm blue light that wavered over her body, everytime he smiled at her and rushed to the kitchen.
The ladies were preparing their breakfasts that had goon cold, so Yvie just watched then hustle about in the kitchen.
Somehow, her body knew the exact moment Steven entered the kitchen. She felt her body pulse a little faster. She dared a sneaky look at him and saw , through the corner of her eyes, him, leaning cross-legged by the kitchen door frame. He had a ghost of a smile playing on his lips.
Yvie justified her reaction to his presence by blaming it on her shock of how he looked. In her mind she had envisioned him to be a lot older. A couple of decades actually. She thought he was round about, Ms. Lila and Ms. Pricilla's age. But he was not. By the looks of the few glances she managed to steal, he looked a few years older than her. He had chocolate-brown hair, that curled at the tips. He about a head taller than her. He had icy blue eyes. They reminded her of the night-walkers from Game of Thrones. He had sleek black spectacles that framed his eyes. The contrast of his ice blue eyes and black spectacles made his orbes shine even brighter.
Yvie felt flustered for reasons she could not quite point to. Her mindless thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Ms. Lila's voice beckoning her.
"Yvonne, dear, the mugs. I asked for mugs for you and Stevie." She sweetly said, smiling brightly. Yvie nodded as she made her way to the cupboard. As she handed over the mugs to Ms. Lila, she realised something that she had not noticed earlier.
Ms. Lila seemed so happy today. She was always happy, but today she seemed, alive. It was hard to explain, but Ms. Lila seemed different. She walked with so much energy and life.
Yvie had a gut feeling that it was the presence of Steven Tarintino that changed Ms. Lila's spirit. But, why? She had no clue.
Then again, there was something about him , he had an air about him. He gave off the ambiance of someone that would save you, even if it costed his own life. Yvie did not know where that observation came from, she just felt it.
Ms. Pricilla called her to sit outside with them for breakfast and she did. She sat on the her usual spot, with Steven opposite her and ate in silence. Her mind was loud, however. Ice - blue colours swirled loudly and maddeningly through her mind.
