"Now , Brandon  do put it down gently, those books are too precious for you to manhandle them the way that you are." Yvie heard Ms. Lila scolding someone as she entered her office.

"Gently." Ms. Lila persisted as a man walked into Yvie's office carrying a large box.

The man was huffing profusely. He was red in his face and a few droplets of sweat was beginning to form on his forehead.

He gently placed the books on the floor beside Ms. Lila. He let out a huge breath. "Only you will think books are more important than a human. You had me walking so slow, I was about to faint any moment. I swear, crazy is not even a word to describe how you behave over your books, Ms. Lila." The man said after he regained his breath.

He looked over to Yvie and flashed her a cheeky smile. He reminded Yvie of the boys her mother warned her about. Charming, egotistical, handsome. The kind that will break your heart by just staring into their smothering orbes for a little too long.

He had pitch-black hair and black eyes that were dancing with mischief. Yvie broke their gaze and directed her attention to Ms. Lila, whom was too busy ravaging through her new book collection to notice the tension in the air.

"New books?" Yvie dumbly asked. The second those words came out of her mouth , she wanted to just crumple into dust and blow away. The silence had made her nervous. She felt like this unamed man was staring holes into her.

"It would seem so, wouldn't it?" The man jokingly said. Yvie rolled her eyes in annoyance. The man walked over to her and held out his hand.

"Brandon Walker, and I suppose you're Yvonne Meyers,  the new girl in town." Brandon said, flashing her a pearly white smile that made her intestines churn.

"That would be me." Yvie stiffly said as she looked at his out stretched hand. When he finally got the hint that she was not going to shake it,he shoved his hands into his pocket.

"While, Ms. Lila, I have I to go back to work. With Mathew gone, my responsibilities in the shop has tripled. While, off I go. Goodbye Ms. Lila." He said as he kissed Ms. Lila on her head.

"Goodbye Yvonne Meyers." Brandon said as he nodded her way. Yvie sent him a stern smile before turning along to go into her office.

When Brandon left, Ms. Lila softly said,"That Brandon will be the death of me and every woman in this town. Those deep black eyes will leave any woman stranded in them, I tell you."

Yvie did not know how to respond. Her mouth fell open as she stared at Ms. Lila. She could not belive her ears. Ms. Lila was talking about "Brandon" in a way she never expected her too.

"Close your mouth, unless you are looking to house flies." Ms. Pricilla said harshly to Yvie as she entered her office.

"Did the Walker boy bring these in?" Ms. Pricilla asked, without really looking for a reply. "I swear he always makes such a racket in the library. Well, now come dear, did you apply to be a statue in the great Athens or a manager of our library?" Ms. Pricilla asked, her voice laced in irritation and sarcasm.

Yvie snapped out of her trance and peered at Ms. Pricilla. "Help is needed here, if you have decided you are not a statue." Ms. Pricilla said.

Yvie smiled as she went over to the box with the books. She too sat on the floor, in between where Ms. Lila and Ms. Pricilla were sitting . Other people would be offended by Ms. Pricilla's harsh way of speaking, but Yvie already understood that she meant no harm.

"Oh, these books are delectable. All of them. I cannot wait to put them on the shelf." Ms. Lila dreamingly said. She ran her fingers over the books and let out a contented sigh as she started humming a song Yvie did not know. Ms. Pricilla started humming too.

It was an unusual sight for Yvie. As the two old freinds started humming louder, staring at the books. Yvie had no clue what the song was, but she felt touched by it.

All of a sudden Ms. Lila burst into tears. Yvie was taken a back. She'd never seen this side of Ms. Lila , it left her feeling unsettled. Ms. Pricilla seems more accustomed to it, for she immediately went over to Ms. Lila and started to cradle her like a baby.

"Yvie, could you be a dear and close the library. Yu can go home. It's been a long day. Go on. Get your bag and just put the closed sign on the library and go home. See you tomorrow, dear." Ms. Pricilla softly said.

Yvie stared at Ms. Pricilla. This was the first time, she'd ever been soft spoken. The whole situation was unusual. From Brandon to this. Yvie nodded her head and picked up her bag.

She smiled at Ms. Lila and Ms. Pricilla one last time before exiting her office.

When Yvie got out of her office, she let out a breath. She leaned against the hall and waited until her heart beat at the normal rythym. Just before she turned to leave, she heard Ms. Lila cry out, "Why did he leave? Why did he leave me?"

Yvie's heart broke silently as Ms. Lila's words cut her deep in her soul. Ms. Lila started humming the same tune as earlier, only this time, she added the lyrics too. The lyrics are what really haunted Yvie that night. The lyrics are what made her dash home. The lyrics are what made her cry that evening.

"If he's a serial killer,
Then what's the worse, then what's the worse that could happen,
To a girl that's already hurt,
I'm already hurt,
If he's as bad as they say,
Then I guess I'm cursed,
Looking into his eyes,he's already hurt,
He's already hurt.

I said don't be a jerk, don't call me a taxi
Siting in your sweatshirt, crying in the back seat,
Ooh, oh-oh
I just wanna dance with you..."

The way they were sung, broke Yvie down.

The song is called "happiness is a butterfly" by lana del Rey. It's a song on her upcoming album "Norman f*king  Rockwell ", so it's new. And obviously how can Ms. Lila and Ms. Pricilla know a new song, but the lyrics were perfect, so that's why I did it. Granted, the lyrics aren't that "deep" , there are other songs that would seem more suitable for a breakdown, but I just was writing this scene and that song popped into my head and it felt perfect. End of my long  rant about a song 😂😂😂

Anyways,

See ya next time
