Ghost town

chapter eighteen: sort of first date.

The wind was beginning to pick up as Yvonne Meyers, made her way home from the bookshop to her house. It was the beginning of Spring and it marked her sixth month in the ghost town.

Weirdly enough,  the six months went by like a blink of the eye. The little ghost town felt more like home than her old town that she grew up in the city did.

She and Steven Tarintino had been getting to know each other better. Sometimes she felt like she actually did like him, other times he felt like the older brother she had lost all those years ago. She was not sure if that was a good thing.

The flowers beamed all around her and the smell of cherry blossoms was prominent. She was certain that there she would never find a more romantic smell, that  cherry blossoms.

When  she turned into her Street, she smiled. For, Steven's car stood in her driveway. She was bursting with excitement and speed-walked her way to her house.

Steven had a spare key, so she knew that he was already inside and most probably making some tea. She ran up the pathway that lead to her house and leapt onto Steven who was sitting on the front patio.

She put her arms around his neck and hugged him. "Whoa. Easy there tiger. You are going to choke me to death." Steven said into her ears, in a light tone.

Yvie blushed as she got off of him and straightened the dress she was wearing.

"I was just excited to see you. So , what brings you by?" She asked as she stole one of the cookies he had put out to accompany his tea. Her stealing his cookie garnered a playful slap on her hand, causing Yvie to pout.

"You are the Queen of stealing cookies , I swear. Anyways, I was wondering if you wanted to do some
in-door rock climbing? It is really safe, you have on a harness and everything." Steven said, he played with his spectacles whilst waiting for her answer. Yvie knew he was nervous, for he only played with his spectacles when he was nervous.

Yvie smiled. He was asking her on a date. Their first date. Part of her was excited , but she was scared because she had never done rock climbing before. Even though Steven swore that it was safe, she was still nervous. However, she had decided that she was going to do things this year and live her life to the fullest, so she simply nodded her head to say yes.

Steven smiled broadly. He told her to meet her the next day at 6 pm sharp , by the local in-door fitness arena and to wear comfortable clothes. He left not before planting a velvety soft kiss on her cheeks.

Yvonne Meyers could not hide her excitement when it reached the end of her work day. She greeted Ms. Lila and Ms. Pricilla in a rush and sped off home.

She had picked out her clothes for her date with Steven the night before. She decided to wear a hot pink sweatpants coupled with a black sweatshirt and shoes. She put her hair in a tight bun and speed walked her way to the local in-door fitness arena. It was half-past five when she reached the location. Yvie hated being tardy.

Steven had not yet arrived so she made her way to the reception area to inquire about the pricing. She saw a familiar face at the reception.

"Matthew? When did you arrive ?" she asked as she reached him , when he heard his name he turned around and flashed her a beaming smile.

"Yvonne, hi. I arrived about two hours ago. Steven had told me about his gathering he was having. I was not about to say no to a rock climbing get together. I am glad that I am not the only one that arrives early to events. Now Brandon can clown both me and  you." Matthew said, laughing slightly.

Yvie smiled, but in her head her wheels were turning. A get together? She had thought that Steven had asked her on a date. She tried her best not to show her disappointment. She had misinterpreted Steven's invite. There was a silver lining, though. For, now she could get to know everybody better. She spent most of her time with Steven or Ms. Lila and Ms. Pricilla.

Yvie and Matthew were getting harnessed up when the others arrived. Brandon, Steven and Tracy arrived together. Yvie waved madly their direction to let them know where she and Matthew were.

" You know, I bet they can see you a mile away with pink sweatpants on. " Matthew stated , causing Yvie to laugh and swat Matthew on his chest.

Tracy ran over to the two of them and enveloped them in a hug. " My two favourite people in the world." she said as she kissed both of them on the cheek.

Yvie could see the sibling resemblance between Matthew and Tracy. They both had that blonde hair, deep brown eyes and same facial structure.

Seeing them together made her think about her brother. She found herself forgetting that she had a brother. She just tried her best to block out all of her memories of him.

Steven and Brandon walked over towards them. She smiled at them and hugged Steven tightly. She heard Brandon and Tracy whistle behind them. She just laughed and rolled her eyes.

That evening had been splendid. She had fun and it was even better than any date she had been expecting.
