Yvonne Meyers tried her best to keep her emotions at bay. She was on the brink of tears. This was her final day in the ghost town, Harrisville.
She was saddened to leave, but joyful , for she was starting a new chapter of her life. She would be going to Univeristy in the upcoming weeks. She would be entangled in a new adventure.
She would, however, not forget her 12 months in Harrisville. Nor would she forget the people she met. She had been through a lot in the past 12 months and the people in this town had helped her so much.
Earlier in the day each person had come by and said their farewells. Each teary greeting pulled at Yvie's heart strings. Each loving hug or peck on the cheeks made Yvie breakdown slightly. She was so grateful for all of them. Grateful for their part in her journey.
As she started her engine of her car that evening, she felt the nostalgia of the ghost town tug her in and the air hugged her as she started to drive away. She sped past memories of happiness, heartache. love , friendships and peace.
The felt bittersweet. Tears escaped her as she exited Harrisville and she allowed it to stream down her face, refusing to catch them.
Every turn she took, she had to stop herself from turning around and going back to the stately ghost town. She knew that she would not accomplish anything if she ran away form her problems and spent the rest of her life in the ghost town.
As she made her way home, the crisp night air imbibing her senses, the air swaying through her and dancing across her skin, the moon peaking out from the clouds, she took a deep breath in and welcomed her new life and peace of mind with open arms.
