Vera Harbour-Farmiga wasn't the typical housewife like she had been billed as when her parents arranged for her to marry David.

She was only two and was barely out of diapers. He was six with a wide vocabulary of unpleasant words and liked to poke forks into outlets.

Obviously she did not pick him to marry, but her parents thought he would be a good fit.

David Harbour was to grow up to be the greatest detective the world had ever seen. He was suppose to be everything America had to offer. Yeah right, he turned into a detective who liked to hit around his wife and drink beer.

For that reason and that reason alone, Vera packed her things and left. She took her four-year-old daughter with her, but after a long court case he was awarded custody.

At that time, David said he wanted no contact to be made between Vera and their daughter. He put everything into a UHAUL and drove a state over to become a small town police chief who was well loved by the town.

Vera never stood a chance in keeping her daughter, but that didn't mean she could watch over her.

She moved one town over from them, taking a job from Marcus Buckingham as a physiatrist for his workers. She worked for him and in return he gave her information on Millie.

Noah looked up at the building with fear in his eyes. "This place looks scary." He stated.

His mother had made him see one of these after he watched his dog get run over, but he didn't need it.

All he remembered now about that time was coloring in her office while she asked him about cartoon characters.

Lilia rolled her eyes. "It's not like they're evaluating you, Noah, we're here to talk to Vera and that's it."

She opened the glass plated door and shoved him across the threshold before the skidish boy could argue further.

She had no time for his games, not when Millie was at home waiting on her.

"What are you doing!" Vera screamed at her husband. "She's a child."

Reasoning with David was like reasoning with a wall, but she would not stand by while he did something so awful to their beautiful, tiny daughter.

"Oh leave me alone, Ver, she has to learn sometime." David replied groffly. "The Wolfhard boy could be worse."

Vera shook her head. "You're not selling my daughter off."

"Our daughter and you had no problem when I sold the Buckingham's their baby girl." David was practically fuming. "Now did you!"

Vera bit the inside of her cheek. "I didn't know you sold Marcus the little girl that was left on the police steps until too late. But this is my daughter you're talking about." She couldn't imagine a life without Millie so how could he.

"She's whiney and a brat. She's betrothed to their son anyway why not raise them together." He sounded like he believed every word he had just said.

The blonde woman only looked at him. "That's it!" She threw her hands in the air. "I'm leaving and I'm taking Millie with me."

"To Hell you are." David stood. "You're going to go upstairs and have a long bath then we'll talk about this, but you will not be taking my daughter anywhere." With that he stormed from the room, from the house all together.

Vera didn't wait, she took the stairs two at a time until she reached her daughter's room. "Millie?" She called softly.

A moment later the door gave way to a four-year-old with vibrant brown eyes. "Hi, Mommy." Millie said sweetly, smiling up at her mother.

"Hello, sweetheart." Vera pushed into the room and pulled a small suitcase from under the bed.

"Vacation?" Millie asked excitedly.

Her mother frowned. "Sort of like one yeah only Daddy is staying here." She packed her daughter's suitcase.

Millie only nodded. What could she possibly say about all this. She was four.

Vera was taken from her trance as two teenagers-a blonde girl and brunette boy-entered her office. "What can I do for you?"
