AN: ahh this is a story that I started a long time ago and recently I got strangely motivated to rewrite it since it was absolutely horrible (it's still horrible now but it was worse before) thus if anyone is actually reading this enjoy and good luck! :)

I stared at the passing trees in silence. I watched how they danced with the wind, admiring how the sunlight made them look welcoming and warm when truth, those woods were everything but that, sheltering all kinds of creatures that only came out in the dark to prey on you. Uncomfortably, I shifted my eyes away from the window, trying to not think of the darkness around us whilst glaring at my hands. These days, I was never in a good mood, well what you could call good in these circumstances – my mind was definitely not in the right place for what you would conventionally call a good mood. Perhaps that could have been due to the fact that I could feel nothing whatsoever – not happiness, not fear, not even love, as if a switch just flipped and it was all gone, everything that made me, me. Well of course except my common sense.

Now, I was someone else and only a memory remained of the old Hermione Granger.

Maybe it was a blessing – me letting go of the past and moving on, maybe even having fun for once – or, it was all a curse, a curse that was bound to make everything worse in the end.

"Mason, I swear to bloody Merlin, if we are not there in the next 10 minutes..." I trailed off frustratedly. My legs have begun cramping up after the torturous 12 hours that we have sat in this car and I have already given up on my bum which was completely numb, so one would understand why I wanted to get there so quickly.

"We have been doing this for the past hour, Mia. You complaining will not change anything." He answered without sparing me a glance but I could also tell how he wanted to get out of this car as soon as possible and stretch his legs out. He was a dog after all and needed his time to run around.

Mason Lockwood was a beautiful man with a bright smile and a friendly personality that many adored (especially women) however he did hide his true self, the beast within that he let out every full moon. Him being a werewolf never bothered me as I have already had my fair share of them, some being good whilst others not so much, and whilst he did turn into a killing machine once a month, in the end he did help me when I needed someone the most. I couldn't feel love or compassion but what I could at least offer was my loyalty towards him until I decided to leave on my own.

After about an hour of a drive through never ending forests, a sign could be seen from far away. 'Welcome to Mystic Falls' it read. It looked innocent, welcoming but the feeling it gave me was not the one of safety, no, the shiver that ran down my spine introduced a kind of unease and this unease was bound to cause trouble.

"Who calls a town Mystic Falls anyways? It sounds like a 5 year old made it up." I stated and Mason chuckled loudly. "Can't argue with you on that one Mia."

Soon enough we were surrounded by hundreds of people as we reached our destination: Lockwood Mansion. It might have not been the best circumstances to be here, Mason's brother having died (although I did hear he was a bit of a twat), but I was glad to actually go out somewhere even if it was a small town in the middle of nowhere.

"So the black sheep returns." A voice said suddenly causing me to jump slightly. I turned around to see a young man that looked vaguely similar to Mason. "Tyler?" Mason exclaimed in bewilderment.

"Yeah..."

"What happened to you? In my mind you're 12 years old."

"That is two years older than the last time you saw me, Uncle Mason." Tyler said slowly, almost bitterly whilst Mason pulled him in for a friendly hug that has been delayed for so many years.

"Well Ty, I want you to meet someone. This is Mia – wait where did she..." Mason looked around quickly, however I beat him to it and stepped forward towards the young man. "Hello there! Mason told me a lot about you." I said with a small smile and a nod. "And he told me nothing about you. But it's still nice to meet you, Mia." He grinned before we were quickly separated as Mason dragged me away, inside the house.

What seemed like hundreds of people came over to us, well to Mason, and payed their respects saying how sorry they were for his death or how they were surprised at how much Mason has changed over the years. When I finally realised that I couldn't take the awkwardness (as only Mason was talking and I just trailed behind him) I wandered off to my own direction.

"And what is a lady like you doing here all by yourself?"

A man stood in front of me, his bright blue eyes staring straight into my own and a small smirk resting on his face – he looked entirely up to no good and I was not going to have any of it.

"I'm not a lady and I'm not by myself so If you would, please find someone else to bother." I said walking off; he might have been somewhat hot but I had a bad feeling about him, as if he was surrounded by death itself and me being anywhere near him would bring that death to me.

However, it seemed that trouble was attracted to me, and the moment I turned my head I noticed something I really shouldn't have been seeing. It was two girls, one moaning in pain while the other looking intently at her but suddenly it all stopped and one of them laughed mockingly. "I've been around a long-time Bonnie; you are going to have to do better than that." Then the one speaking grabbed 'Bonnie' by her neck baring her fangs. I have never seen a vampire before so this came as somewhat a shock to me but it ended as quick as it came as I decided to help out the situation. I discretely took out my wand and pointed it at the door that was separating the room and the rest of the house that was filled with people and opened it, leaving the vampire with no other choice but to let go Bonnie.

I was left unnoticed as the vampire thought it was Bonnie who done it, giving her a somewhat impressed look.

"Katherine." I heard a voice say and the vampire turned to look. "Stefan." She murmured in a silky voice. "Let her go." The man said calmly and 'Katherine' shrugged. "Okay." And then she followed after Stefan, leaving me and Bonnie alone.

"You can come out now." She said confidently, but I could see that that confidence was wavering as she didn't know what to expect. "You can thank me later, Bonnie." I said with a small smirk, coming out from the shade. I knew I didn't look too intimidating for anyone as of course I just seemed like any other teenage girl that wasn't anything out of the average.

"Who are you? Why did you help me?"

"Well I was bored and I saw this little situation so I decided why not." I explained swiftly.

"Thank you. I'm Bonnie Bennet and you are?" She placed a hand in front of her. Skin contact wasn't something that I enjoyed so for a few moments I was reluctant but soon enough I placed my hand in hers. "Mia."

The moment my hand touched hers, I could feel the magic soaring within her; it wasn't like mine however, not coming from within her but rather from her surroundings, from nature. These types of witches were once mentioned in History of Magic when we learning about the Salem Trials however they were never looked at closely, not even in the books that I read.

"Nice to meet you." She smiled but her attention went elsewhere as she let out a relieved sigh. "Elena!"

I was about to pull out my wand again as I saw the vampire, or what seemed like the vampire, just in different clothes and straight hair rather than curly. Whilst Katherine gave off an aura of confidence and danger this one just looked helpless so I came to a conclusion that they were completely different people.

"Bonnie, what happened, who is this?" The girl asked.

"Katherine happened. Mia saved me. She's also a witch like me!" She said excitedly, as if she hasn't seen another witch before. I gave yet another fake smile before looking at my imaginary watch. "Well would you look at the time! I must leave you guys now but maybe we could meet up one of these days."

Without looking back, I ventured out to find Mason again. It wasn't too hard as he stood in the middle of a small crowd talking and smiling with everyone, completely unaware of what just happened. He always did miss all of the drama.
