Mystic Falls Historical Society Volunteer Day. That was where I was going to spend my day when I wasn't even from Mystic Falls, actually, far from here. I could have spent my day much more productively such as going to that party I heard someone was throwing or maybe just going to the bar- either of these choices sounding much better than whatever this was.
I was standing next to Mason and chatting with him while he was unloading some stuff for the day. I was no help at all but at least I was keeping him company while he worked and gave him motivation to keep going.
However, when I saw Stefan and Damon approaching us, my talking immediately stopped as I glared at the brothers. I warned them yet they still decided to stab Mason in the stomach. Stefan's apologetic look did not stop the need of revenge boiling in my blood. The only thing holding me back now was Mason's hand which was holding my shoulder to stop me from doing anything. He was trying to be peaceful with them and that was stupid of him as they definitely weren't trying to be peaceful with us.
"Stefan, right? The other Salvatore." Mason asked, giving a subtle dirty look to Damon who stood behind Stefan not looking apologetic whatsoever. Rather, he looked pleased with his work as if he helped the whole country by stabbing Mason.
"The nice one. The one offering an apology." Stefan said coolly, looking back at his brother for reassurance before looking back at the two of us.
"Not interested. Remember, I warned you, Stefan."
"Look, my brother acted impulsively." He explained and I rolled my eyes. Why wasn't he the one doing the apology then?
"You think..."
"You and Damon keep at each other's throats, somebody innocent is going to get hurt. And I don't want that. Your family is here so I can't imagine you'd want that either. So, what do you say we just quit the whole alpha male fighting thing and just call it a truce?"
"I made the same offer to your brother, he turned it down...with a knife." I could have sworn that I saw a smirk growing on Damon's face. "He made a mistake and I'm here to ensure that neither one of you get another." He stated. Mason grabbed one of the boxes and started to walk away. "Tell your brother to watch his back."
Stefan grabbed Mason's arm, "Well I'm guessing he only has to worry about that during the full moon, am I, right? Or you would've killed Damon by now. It is one of you, two of us."
"I wouldn't bet on that." I smiled sadistically, ready to take out my wand. Before I could, Mason stepped in again, stopping me. "Don't do it. We will deal with them later." He whispered in my ear and I took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. I didn't understand his logic – they hurt him yet he didn't want any kind of revenge.
"If he comes at me..." Mason trailed off.
"He won't." Stefan answered surely.
"If he does, no one will hold me back anymore. Mark my words, this is my last warning."
After an hour or so of the day, I was getting restless. Mason went off somewhere again, leaving me alone to find some entertainment – sadly, there was none. All I could do was walk around aimlessly hoping for something to happen. I noticed Elena sitting down looking quite sad and I was going to join her but Caroline sat down beside her talking animatedly about something I couldn't make out. Suddenly, Caroline shot up, looking at something in the distance. It was her mum, the Sheriff, talking on the phone, looking extremely suspicious. Caroline went up to her, angrily speaking yet the Sheriff did nothing but look apologetically at her daughter before walking away quickly, still on the phone. She looked like she was going to do something sketchy so I did the only thing I could think of – follow her to wherever she was going. That wasn't hard at all as she was not even paying attention to the silent footsteps trailing behind her.
