"I missed you." He whispered sounding like a sad puppy. My hearts beating picked up its pace.
My hand subconsciously rested on his arm before I remembered that I was mad at him. What the hell is he doing with me if he is with Serena?
"What the fuck?" I spat out, disgusted in myself for letting him get to me.
The hand I had on his arm pushed him away and I stepped away from him like he was poison.
Watching the hurt that crossed his features created a new type of worry inside me. Guilt panged the pit of my stomach as I began inching away from him. My hands itched to reach out to him but I knew I shouldn't.
His beautiful eyes looked sad and I could feel my glare softening in an instant.
"Delilah, angel what did I do to you?" He asked, wary as if I would blow any second. That presumption was not wrong.
Once his eyes zoned in on me inching away from him, the sad look on his face slightly morphed to anger but once it was there it disappeared.
My eyes moved to slits. He had to know what he did, right? Or did he think I was too stupid to catch on? I knew in the back of my mind that he could still be innocent and I didn't want to throw around accusations but it was hard to remain calm.
I looked around at the people passing by on the sidewalks who were staring and lowered my eyes when Aspen tried to make eye contact.
"Not here." I motioned to everyone passing by. Aspen seemed to understand and gently picked up my hand tugging me through a dark alley in the side of the street.
"Aspen, are you trying to get us killed?" I whispered with an edge to my voice.
The alley was dark, which was a contrast on the bright sunlight glittering outside. The walls were made of old brick, and had small broken down doors aligned that were clearly never put to use. Oddly enough, I did not feel unsettled or even disturbed by the ambiance of the creepy place.
He smirked and nodded unknowing about how attractive he looked. I licked my lips stunned into silence readily following this guy who I trusted for no good reason. My eyes wandered all over his body when he was focused on where we were going and I felt embarrassed by the ways he could make me feel so easily.
Suddenly, Aspen halted in his steps leaving me to be a great example of Newton's Law of Motion when I tumbled into his body yet again. This habit really has got to stop.
Aspen chuckled and held onto the sides of my arms. "That's definitely my Delilah." He muttered under his breath. I scrunched up my nose.
"Get your hands off me please." I tried to say gently but ended up seething.
The smile on Aspen's face was wiped off and I could tell he was in a playful mood but had to keep it at bay. I almost felt bad.
His eyes stayed hooded as he looked down and gestured to a rusted old ladder that I didn't notice before.
"No fucking way." I said sternly.
"Come on Delilah. The ladder won't bite."
"Are you fucking insane? This is trespassing!" I screeched annoyingly.
"You never had a problem with it before." He winked.
My mouth shut as memories from the night at the lake flashed in my head. He was right. Aspen could see that I lost the fight and gestured to the ladder again which I actually listened to this time.
I began hoisting myself up to the top of the building through the ladder and heard Aspen going up right under me.
Why did I think going outside today was a good idea? I internally groaned.
