Men and women in their most formal business attire sat around the extremely mundane room as they listened to my best attempt at professionalism. People nodded and took notes as if I was doing something right. Little did they know, it took Mr. Lanes second highest in the company hours to teach me what in the world I was doing.

Honestly, I still had no clue what was going on.

As I spoke about the median of income being brought to the company this week alone, sounds began coming from the halls. Everyone in the room seemed distracted but me, as irritation crawled up my spine. I did not pull an all nighter practicing this for nothing.

They were so distracted as if a stripper was right out the door doing her thing but I had no clue what was out there.

With a huff, I gave in. "If you want to see what us out there so badly, then go. Just know I'm stealing all your fortune cookies when the Chinese food gets here."

This was supposed to be an important meeting but if Mr. Lane himself couldn't make it, than neither could I.

As everyone walked out with guilty looks on their faces for being caught, I saw a woman with a beautiful bouquet of roses in her hand. Then as my eyes moved, there were many women with the same bouquet. As they saw us, they picked up their pace, turning to go by my office desk.

What I didn't expect to see was hundreds- maybe even thousands of roses sitting around my desk. You couldn't even walk through here without stepping on the pretty flowers.

My breath was taken away. As one woman came in with a tiny crystal vase with a sunflower standing tall outside of it. In her other hand was a tiny note that could easily be lost in all the flowers.

She was short and looked up at me with a big smile that had dimples popping out on each of her cheeks.

"Are you Delilah Cruise?" The woman asked, with a bit of glitter at the top of her eyelids sparkling.

She wore a full face of colorful makeup which made her look innocuous and happy. Her outfit was oddly dark for her makeup but the girl was swanky.

"I think so." I responded.

"Sign here."

Hoping I wasn't signing my life over, I lazily scanned through the paper and signed my name. She then placed the single sunflower and note in my hands.

"Enjoy. Have a lovely day!"

With that, all the women left while chatting about their next inventory. This left me surrounded by flowers and very curious coworkers.

"Mrs Cruise- what is all this?" A sweet man around my age asked timidly.

I didn't know. With impatience, I looked over the note to read in pretty cursive letters.

To my sunflower in a field of roses, I'm sorry for everything. -A.K.

My eyes bulged. My heart warmed inside my chest and tingles rushed through my body. Little soft butterflies feelings settled in the pit of my stomach as my cheeks turned pink.

This was incredibly sweet, but I didn't know what to think. My heart fluttered but I was panicking internally. The reminder of how our last attempt at a sort of relationship wasn't fun. He didn't fight for me then, instead, he left. In the origins of our love, he was only there for sex. What if he hasn't changed? Just like he could back then, he can get any girl he wants. Stop overthinking, Delilah!

"I-" no words left my mouth. Instead, I paced around the room. He wanted you for sex. He wanted you for sex. He wanted you for sex.

As if my train of thoughts had no effect on my insides, my insides felt nervous and tingly. It felt like I was a teenager girl with her first big crush and there was a inescapable buzz of euphoria filling my body.

Time seemed to be frozen in place as a fat smile spread from cheek to cheek on my face.

The feeling of not being alone for once was oddly soothing after so long. Why didn't he just leave?

Just as I finally relaxed, high pitched screaming echoed through the walls of the large office space. Turning with fright at the familiar sound, I found Sela with her cheesy "I love men and tequila" coffee cup in hand.

"Oh baby you've got a sugar daddy Delilah!" She patted my back softly as I mentally agreed with her.

"Sela!" I smacked her arm as the old lady in the corners eyes widened and she took her glasses off to give us her stink eye.

Suddenly feeling embarassed, I stepped away from Sela leaving a solid 3 feet between us as the lady stared us down.

If this wasn't bad enough for my co-workers to see, just as I let out a breath Mr. Lane himself stepped out of his personal elevator with a phone to his ear and a no bullshit expression.

The second he noticed the hundreds of flowers decorating my office his eyes widened, and he fumed.

"Mrs. Cruise please step into my office."

As he noted my hesitation his eyes narrowed into threatening slits.

"Now!"

With immediate trepidation, I walked briskly towards his office as everyone's eyes in the office followed me.

Even Sela calmed down which was abnormal in any circumstance.

I brushed the curls of hair out of the front of my face then looked up to see Mr. Lane already seated in his big office chair and surrounded by paperwork galore.

The realization hit that I was out of my meeting, surrounded by workers who were also supposed to be in said meeting, and on top of that my flirting boss

His narrowed eyes softened as he watched me fidget in the little chair adjacent to his desk.

"Do I even have to go over the things you've done wrong today, Mrs Cruise?"

"No, but sir you're employees weren't focusing and-"

"I don't care. Consider yourself done for today. I'll decide if there is any further punishment for you later. Pack up, and take those damn flowers with you." He nearly growled out which sent a tinge of anger throughout me.

Not wanting to lose my job, I only nodded while muttering a bye to him and quickly tried to get out of that room. Just as I was at the large oak door, his voice called out again.

"I don't want to see any sort of flirtations in this office ever again."

He couldn't get mad at me for someone else sending me roses, could he?

I didn't owe him anything.

Especially after our last interaction, he should have known his boundaries so why was he so angry?

With a defeated sigh and gloom resting over my head, I closed the door behind me only to see the beautiful stacks of flowers around my office.

The simple thought of having him back made a huge smile grow on my face as my eyes flicked around the arrangement.
