Trees rustling brought my attention to the sky above me. Darks clouds shaded the land around me making the whole place seem eerie. Mist soaked the air leaving fog billowing around the park.
Alone time was what I needed.
I didn't need to see Aspen now.
Not Aspen, not Daniel, I didn't need a guy to calm my beating heart. All day I've called Rena in need if advice but weirdly she hadn't answered.
My thoughts were frantic as my hands ached to call Aspen and beg him to explain everything. To ask him if I was good enough without the sex.
For once I found myself questioning whether or not I was good enough for a guy and it hurt.
Droplets of dew descended from the sky as sounds of splashing surrounded me. The drops slowly soaked my body but I had no urge to move out of the water flow.
Feeling the rain soak my skin was oddly calming. With every drop that kissed my skin my worries washed away. I was no longer thinking about Aspen, instead I was drowning in something other than my own thoughts.
Even as I found peace in the rain tears slowly cascaded down my face just adding new droplets of water to the ground.
Despite my thoughts, no amount of rain could extinguish the pile of emotions flowing inside of me now.
The urge to walk around the streets pulled me out of my metal park bench and down the sidewalk.
Wind fanned against my cheeks causing tingles of cold to appear throughout.
My steps speeded as I felt my face go numb from the cold.
Isn't it supposed to be the middle of summer?
Ignoring my thoughts, I trudged under a cafe pergola shielding myself from the cold water.
So much for feeling the rain.
Pulling my phone out to check the time I noticed that I had 7 missed calls from Rena's mom. Worry hit me as a bad feeling settled over.
I quickly dialed her number and nervously paced back and forth under the beautiful archway.
"Answer answer answer" I nervously chanted as my eyes darted around the cafe inside.
For a moment I wanted to walk inside and grab a warm drink but decided to wait until Rena's mom picked up.
It took a moment but finally Tina picked up with a deep breath exhaled.
My anxiety peaked at the sound. I was unsure if I was being dramatic or the rain behind me was intensifying everything.
"Delilah you need to come to the hospital." She paused, sounding like she dreaded something. "Rena is in a coma."
My heart dropped. What would I do without Rena?
Just as I opened my mouth to respond my eyes met with someone else's inside the cafe.
The phone in my hands dropped as the scene in front of me processed.
Aspen was looking amazing as always as he frowned at the person across from him at the table. His eyebrows were creased until he made eye contact with me and surprise settled onto his face as he started to stand up and walk towards the door.
The person across from him had a familiar head of blonde hair and blue eyes. If you guessed it was Serena, then you are correct.
Hurt and dissapointment panged at me as I scrambled to pick up the phone hearing Tina calling my name from the little speaker.
