I reached Olivia. "Eva!" she exclaimed, "I saw all of what had happened. That was quite a hit, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay."
She reached over and hugged me, "I can see you're not okay, I'm just trying to get the people to quit staring," she whispered, "You can tell me later if you want."
I nodded in agreement, "I have a small concussion. I can't stay home though."
"Oh Eva. Is it your mom?"
"Yeah," I felt a tear roll down my cheek. I quickly wiped it away.
The bell rang and I quickly walked to class with my head looking down the entire time. I has at my desk and got out my things for the class.
"You shouldn't be here," I heard someone say.
I turned around and saw Damian, "Why? You saying I don't belong after yesterday?"
"That's exactly what he's saying Eva," Rachel said.
"I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were in this conversation," Damian said in his no emotion tone. That shut up Rachel rather quickly.
"No, I saw yesterday's footage at the museum. From the looks of it, you hit your head hard," he explained.
"Thanks for pointing that out," I said, sharply. "I've got a small concussion but I can't stay at home."
"I'm not going to get into your personal life. Take it easy, okay?"
I ended the conversation with, "Mmhm."
The rest of the day went by in a blur. It must've been from the concussion. I walked out of the classroom when the last bell rang. I walked through the hall and opened the door to the side of the school. Students were walking back and forth. One group of students, however, were walking right towards me. It was Rachel and her two best friends, Charlotte and Brianna.
"Well well well. What do we have here? Are you going back to Poison Ivy?" Rachel hissed.
Charlotte and Brianna laughed. They were all the same. Heavy makeup, expensive jewelry, and gets every guy to fall for them. Olivia and I used to be best friends with Rachel. Back in middle school, we were the top girls. Everyone knew us and wanted to be our friend. Rachel enjoyed the attention. Her father was some big wig that worked with Bruce Wayne in the past. She was used to the attention that she got, while Olivia and I didn't like it. We told her that we didn't like her gossiping about every person in the school. So we left her, Charlotte and Brianna had already become friends with Rachel so it wasn't like we left her alone.
She started spreading rumors about us. How are lives were. Olivia lives with her parents and her two, older, twin brothers in a two bedroom apartment. Until recently, when her brothers went to college, Olivia slept on the couch. As for me, I told Rachel that my dad is dead and my mom is busy at work. That's what I tell everyone. Olivia only found out who my mom was because I told her. Even though we were close friends, Olivia or I never told Rachel all of our secrets. Which she also hated.
"I think she already has assistants named Brianna and Charlotte," I snapped back.
"Look here Eva," she grabbed my wrist. What is it with people grabbing my hurt wrists? "Everyone knows Poison Ivy hasn't been around for fourteen years. So for her to show up and for you to be the target, doesn't that seem a little odd?"
"Oh, were you not there when Batman showed up? I wasn't her target, Batman was."
"I. Don't. Care," with every word, her grip got tighter, "who her target was, you were there and that's all the school needs to know. Come on, let's go." She, Charlotte, and Brianna left.
I walked towards Olivia, "Hey."
"Hey," she replied, "Where were you? Thought you left me."
"Nah. I got stuck talking to The Prissies." The Prissies are what Olivia and I call Rachel, Charlotte, and Brianna.
"Dang. Ready to talk about yesterday now?"
I had already missed my bus talking to Rachel. "This morning you asked if I was okay. Physically I'm healing, but mentally and emotionally, I'm not sure. I've lived with my mom my whole life, by Mom's rules. I knew who she was before, I heard stories, I've read old news articles. Yesterday, though, she scared me. I've never seen her act that way, and after she did what she did, it got to me."
"What do you mean? I thought she just threw you across the room."
I shook my head, and pulled up my sleeves. "Behind the news, she took me to an abandoned warehouse and tied me to a chair. She used her vines that had thorns to tie me up. I was so tied up to the chair, that in order for Robin to cut the vines, I had to push my hands into the thorns so that there was a gap. Also, because I was thrown across the room, I passed out in front of Robin and Batman. The only good thing that happened is that I got to go inside that Batcave."
"Eva, this is serious stuff. You need to tell someone, she needs to go to jail for this. It's child abuse."
"I can't tell anyone anything. If I do, everyone will find out I'm her daughter. Plus, I could get into some serious trouble for helping her willingly. I hate that I'm doing this, but I just got to lie some more."
"It's your choice so I'm going to let you do what you think is best. Just promise me you'll talk to me about anything. I don't like it when your emotions are bottled up."
"I promise I'll tell you everything. After all, that's what best friends are for." We hugged and I gathered my belongings. "I gotta get going. Don't want Mom to be any more mad at me."
"Be safe, call me if something happens tonight."
"I will."
