Part 1 - Doc

"morning, Ali." I turned around to see it was Brandon somberly walking into the kitchen where I was. He had his usual messy hair he always had in the morning. Along with his emerald green shirt, and black sweatpants.

I smiled at him and brought him a plate of pancakes and ham, his favorite breakfast meal. "how is your father doing?" I asked pulling up a chair and sitting down across from him.

"I don't know, haven't seen Doc for about two whole days." Brandon said a little concerned "his geology study has gotten him under a lot of presser." his pun made me want to smack him, but I restrained myself when he started to chuckle which made me laugh a little.

Brandon is about 6. 5 feet tall with brown hair and green eyes that reminded me of emeralds. we have known each other our whole lives. both of my parents and Doc were partners on an experiment involving them trying to find a new way to use the elements around us..... nothing ended well...

since both of my parents died in that experiment I was suppose to go into foster care, but Doc "adopted" me in a way that kept me out of the foster systems. and so I wasn't technically part of there small family so I could continue to date Brandon, and we are still dating to this day.

I rolled my eyes unimpressed with his dumb pun. I got up from the table and walked over to the fridge to get a bottle of water. I leaned against the table Brandon was eating at and started to drink my water when something slammed on the table startling Brandon and I.

"I HAVE MADE A DISCOVERY!" Doc yelled from behind me. with huge bags under his eyes, coffee stains on his lab coat, his glasses had a crack, and his hair was in a mess that went in every which direction.

"what did ya do Doc? did ya figure out time-travel or something? or is it boring like you'r last discovery involving combining two different kinds of coffee." Brandon chuckled as Doc just glared at him with resentment, but I noticed a small smile pick at the corners of his mouth.

"follow me." he said almost dancing and started to walk off. I put my water bottle down onto the table and fallowed Doc as Brandon quickly shoved the rest of his food into his mouth before getting up from the table.

Doc typed a code into the keypad by the basement door, which was only 1234. I am surprised he hasn't changed that thing to a more... complicated password. ugh Doc, I know you are smart, but you can be so stupid sometimes. a smirk crept onto my mouth at the thought.

he opened the door to the basement and compared to the rest of the house it was very nice and clean. it had nice bright white walls on the staircase that went down to the basement floor. the room was full of.... scientists stuff?.... there were three test tubes on one wall, but on the other wall there was a....a.... Justin Bieber poster?

"why do you have this... thing?" I said as Brandon busted up laughing.

"that is amazing!" Brandon tried to say in between laughs.

"what? I like his music." Brandon and I laughed even harder than before.

"ok, moving on!" Doc said turning around and stomping off over to a metal box on a table in the far left corner of the room.

we followed him busting into short spurts of laughter every now and then. Doc opened the metal box to revile a blue blob that had blue rocks poking out of it making it look spiky.

"this is my new invention." Doc motioned to it and smiled a little.

"....what is it?" Brandon said unimpressed. Doc's smile turned into a smirk as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small piece of shrimp and dropped it into the box in front of the blue blob.

the blob moved toward the piece of meat and opened a mouth full of giant sharp teeth that looked as sharp as knives and ate the shrimp in one chomp.

"what the heck?!" Brandon and I said in unison as Doc chuckled and put his hands in his pockets. "I have created a machine that can take certain kinds of elements and make them into....this... not sure what it is yet, but it's a thing! that's what maters!" Doc walked over to one of the test tubes and typed in some junk on the tablet in front of it and turned around with a big smile.

"hay...could one of you get a pice of burning wood from the fire upstairs?" Brandon agreed to it and ran up stairs to get a small pice of ember. doc typed some more stuff into the tablet and started to plug some cords and tubes into the machine.

I wonder what he is going through this crazy old mans head. I thought but pushed the thought away.

Doc's POV

"The vertical distance (here, the difference in elevation between points 'A' and 'B') = 10,000 seconds. The horizontal distance from 'A' to 'B' = 5 min. Gradient = vertical distance (elevation difference (ED)) divided by horizontal distance (HD)" I mumbled to myself as I continued to plug things in.

Ali's POV

I guess we will never know......
